O'Neill takes title with win over Liberty

Story by Kayla Greco
ELDRED — October 15, 2013 — Mud and water soaked the Eldred field on Thursday night as the Eldred and Livingston Manor’s girls’ soccer teams squared off in a crucial OCIAA, Division 6 league game.
Both teams entered the game undefeated in league play. And after a close, hard-fought contest, Livingston Manor remained perfect in the league (3-0, 7-4 overall) with a 2-1 victory.
Eldred (2-1 league, 6-5-1 overall) held a 1-0 halftime advantage on a goal by Lynzee Kelty. But second-half scores by Annaliese Gorr and Dakota Rogers as well as some shut-down defense lifted Manor to the come-from-behind victory. Manor goalie Tara Roser recorded 15 saves.
“We needed this game to get to sectionals and that’s where we want to end up,” said Gorr.
Eldred head coach JJ Gass liked his team’s effort, but felt they gave Manor too many chances.
“We played very well, but we gave a couple of free kicks and they’re a good team,” said Gass. “If you give them enough opportunities, they’ll start putting them in.”
The two teams will face off again on October 21. Manor will clinch the Division title with a victory in that game.
