The Eldred boys’ and girls track teams dominated the Section IX Class D track and field championships at Middletown last week, claiming both team titles as well as first-place finishes in 12 events.

Sullivan athletes rack up first-place finishes

KINGSTON/MIDDLETOWN — May 28, 2013 — Sullivan County track and field athletes had a banner week competing in the respective Section IX championships for Classes B, C and D.
Overall, Sullivan County accounted for 35 first-place finishes in the various class competitions. Additionally, the Eldred boys and girls (Class D) as well as the Tri-Valley girls (Class C) claimed team titles. The Monticello boys (Class B) and Tri-Valley boys (Class C) finished second in the team competition.
Eldred’s Doug Leek (100 and 200m, 110 hurdles) was the only local runner to win three individual events. A host of athletes won two events, including Monticello’s Terry Duncan, Mistah Ali, Trevon Rainey and Laura Doherty; Fallsburg’s Candhace Forrest; Tri-Valley’s Mareena DiMilia; Livingston Manor’s Ami Calo and Katherine Ellis and Eldred’s Kayla Maas and Julian Gottlieb.
All of these winners, other high finishers and those who hit certain benchmarks during the season will be competing Thursday and Friday at the state qualifier in Middletown.
