Briana Rhett (3) fights her way to the basket during the Lady Generals’ decisive win over Bronx Community College.

Steele steals the show for SCCC women

Story by Eli Ruiz
LOCH SHELDRAKE — February 5, 2013 - The SUNY Sullivan Lady Generals dominated an undermanned Bronx Community College from beginning to end Thursday night en route to a lopsided 71-34 Region XV victory.
In all fairness, the Broncos had only six players in uniform for Thursday’s game.
Regina Steele had another impressive game for SUNY Sullivan scoring 31 points to go along with 15 steals and 12 rebounds.
"Boy, she's just tremendous,” said a proud SUNY Sullivan head coach, Daniel Lang. “She catches high and just finishes. There's not anything she doesn't finish. There's a reason she's so good and there's a reason she's the focal point of our opponents. All they can do is try to stop her."
There was no stopping the Lady Generals Thursday as they swarmed all over the Bronx from the outset, contesting virtually every shot. Steele and Co. opened a 13-0 lead before Izet Colon's layup put the Broncos on the board more than six minutes in. Repeated steals and easy layups gave the home team an unassailable 37-5 first-half lead.
"We just wanted to pressure them right from the very start," said Lady Generals head coach Daniel Lang. "I think we did a good job of that because in our first game against them [in November] we didn't press them nearly as much and we knew that [tonight] our pressure would create a lot of turnovers and havoc for them."
Brianna Rhett added 14 points and six assists for the Lady Generals while Grace Geist scored 10 points.
With the victory (and two subsequent wins on the weekend over Nassau and Suffolk), the Lady Generals improve to 14-5 (11-2 Region XV)
