Comeback Cutters
win in Liberty

Story by Eli Ruiz
LIBERTY — August 27, 2013 — Down 7-1 in the second inning to Royal Associates, Curry's Cutters’ bats quickly came to life behind Johnny Bell, Nick Price and Damien Lopez, keeping them in a fast-moving B Division championship game they would eventually win 12-11.
Taking control early, Royal seemed poised to dominate, starting with a two-run double from Greg Merton to put the men from Royal on the board first. Merton crossed home on a wild Cutter pitch, followed by an RBI single giving Royal a 4-0 lead after one.
An RBI single to deep right from Bell scored Mike Travis in the bottom of the first frame for Curry Cutters' first run of the game.
But in the second inning with one out and the bases loaded a sac-fly from Bell scored Dan Rico and ignited the Cutters’ bats. Billy Curry followed with a blast to left field scoring Nick Price and Josh Price then ripped a single down the left-field line to score Lopez, making the score a more palpable 7-4.
In the fourth, with Royal Associates now up 9-5, Curry's Cutters again made some noise. After a bases loaded walk of Frank Scuden scored Bell, Mike Travis bounced one to the pitcher, but his throw to home couldn't catch a sliding Dan Rico. Jordan Papacharalambous then crushed a triple to left scoring three runs for Curry's and bringing them to within one, 10-9.
Nick Price then scored on a Damien Lopez drive to center to make it 12-9 representing the Cutters' final run tally. Solid defense and strong pitching led the way the final three innings as Curry's Cutters yielded just two runs, clinching its first B Division championship.
"A good close game," offered Bell. "Feels good to be able to pull this one out after the start we had, but I give them a lot of credit...great team we beat out there."
