Liberty Slo-Pitch Softball deep into playoffs

LIBERTY — August 16, 2013 — The Liberty Slow-Pitch Softball League playoffs are in full swing to determine champions in the A, B and C Divisions.
In the A Division semifinals The Reapers defeated the Misfits, 2-1 to advance to the finals. Reapers was led by Lucas Stickle who went four-for-four in Game 2 and Jon Hinkley who belted two home runs in the decisive Game 3.
Reapers will be facing Ratner Paving in the finals, who defeated T&M Tree Service 2-1 in the other semifinals. Mike Kushetsky went three-for four in Game 2 for Ratner’s.
The first game of the A Division finals was played last night at the Liberty Elementary School.
The rubber game of the best two-of-three semifinal series in the B Division will be played on Sunday night between the Curry’s Cutters and Beaverkill Valley Fire Department. Curry’s took Game 1 behind Bill Curry’s three hits and two runs scored. Beaverkill came back to take Game 2 15-14, setting up the decisive Game 3 on Sunday.
In the other B Division semifinals, Royal Associates held a 1-0 lead over AmeriCare heading into last night’s Game 2. Royal won Game 1 as Mike Bleach went three-for-three with four RBI.
In the C Division finals, The Center for Discovery (CFD) grabbed a 1-0 lead over NV Health with a 21-11 victory in Game 1. Game 2 was played last night. Behind strong hitting by Donny Santiago and Nick Weiner, CFD advanced to the finals by sweeping the Motorheads. Pete Dworetsky and John Bell helped NV Health dispatch of Woodstock CCB in two games as well.
