Even though trout season officially opened Monday, it really kicks off this Saturday with the Open Cast on the Willowemoc Creek as well as the First Cast at Junction Pool.

'Casting' call for
Saturday's opener

Contributed Story
ROSCOE — April 2, 2013 — Joan Wulff and the Phelan Family will hold another trout fly fishing season opening on the historic Willowemoc Creek, just up stream from the Catskill Fly Fishing Center bridge on Saturday April 6 at 9 a.m. Guests will include Don Trump Jr, Sally Jesse Raphael, NYS Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther and others for a season open cast. Attendees are welcome to join in this Open Cast; bring your waders and gear (they can get in a photo and tell everyone they fished with Joan Wulff).
After photos and chatting on stream, everyone will return to the CFFCM Gift Shop for Agnes Van Put’s famous homemade soups, a cup of coffee and cookies for some socializing after a long winter. In the museum, Catskill John Bonasera will be tying early season flies and visitors will have a first look at Pacific NW Steelhead, Canada, and Past fly fishing accessories; the new exhibits for the year.
The CFFCM will also have the new Wulff Gallery and Catskill Rodmakers Workshop and Heritage Arts of the Angler Craft Center open for a quick tour (10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). ‘Bamboo Mike’ and his Cane Crew will have a bamboo rod casting seminar and casting clinic in the Livingston Manor HS gym from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. An informal and intimate fundraising luncheon with the CFFCM guests and celebrities (fee and reservations required) will be held in the ‘unfinished’ Wulff Gallery with the flycasting guests at 1:30 p.m. The party continues until 4 p.m. and it’s free (donations are accepted).
Details can be found on the cffcm website www.castskillflyfishing.org facebook www.facebook.com/cffcm, by calling 845-439-4810 or emailing flyfish@catskill.net
The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is the largest fly fishing Center in the World.
