Sullivan West stays perfect; wins 9th straight Div. IV title

By Fred Stabbert III
CALLICOON — Sullivan West kept its perfect league record intact Friday afternoon with a 227-260 victory over Fallsburg Central during a match at the Villa Roma Country Club in Callicoon.
The win clinched the host Bulldogs at least a share of the OCIAA Division IV title. The win also solidified Sullivan West’s dominance in local golf, marking its ninth straight year as division champs.
“It’s been a successful year,” Sullivan West Head Coach Bob Fife said. “We will have our top four guys back next year so I hope we can go for 10 straight (league titles.)”
Sullivan West is now 10-0 in league play with two more matches left. Overall, Sullivan West is 12-5.
The Fallsburg Comets fell to 4-6-1 in Division IV and 4-7-1 overall.
Leading the way for Sullivan West was Drew Billard, who fired a 4-over par 39 on the front nine. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Devon Muzuruk, 43; Cody Kubenik, 45; Jim Finn, 48; and Ryan Graham, 52.
For Fallsburg, Rich Elliott took medalist honors with a three-over par 38. Rounding out the top five for Fallsburg were Braiden DeGraw, 50; Zac Steingart, 53; Aaron Schmitt, 59 and Charles Marsden, 60.
Billard and Elliott will be playing along with 28 other golfers in the OCIAA Championships at Grossinger’s Country Club. The match, set for today, will likely be played Wednesday due to rain.
