Monticello boys’, girls’ teams excel at OCIAA ski event

BRIDGEVILLE — Outstanding performances by Ryan Heins and Haley Heins helped the Monticello boys’ and girls’ alpine ski teams finish very well at Tuesday’s Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division I ski meet at Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park.
Ryan Heins won the boys’ race with a time of 29.41 seconds to help the Panthers place second in the team standings. Only Kingston, which posted a total time of 5 minutes, 8.36 seconds, bested Monticello’s total time of 5:19.44.
Haley Heins finished second in the girls’ race with a time of 33.33 seconds. In doing so, she helped the Lady Panthers place first in the team standings with a total time of 5:39.89.
Rachel Klein and Riley Lindholm also placed in the top 10 in the girls’ race to ensure Monticello’s team victory. Klein was eighth in 40.25 and Lindholm finished ninth in 41.51.
In the boys’ team standings, Onteora was third with a total time of 6:02.07 and Liberty finished fourth in 6:20.16. They were followed by: 5. Fallsburg/Tri-Valley, 6:33.82; 6. Rondout Valley, 6:57.54; and 7. Sullivan West, 7:54.92.
In addition to Ryan Heins, several other skiers from Sullivan County high schools placed in the top 15 of the boys’ race. They were: 6. Eugene Doyle, Liberty, 35.90; 7. Alex Wood, Monticello, 37.82; 9. Ryan Erts, Fallsburg/Tri-Valley, 39.41; 11. Joseph Klein, Monticello, 40.30; 12. Daniel Oldfield, Monticello, 40.41; 13. Ryan Zweck, Liberty, 40.51; 14. Josh DeCarlo, Liberty, 41.65 and 15. Bailey Mitchell, Monticello, 41.87.
Following Monticello in the girls’ team standings were: 2. Onteora, 5:54.05; 3. Rondout Valley, 6:33.26 and 4. Fallsburg/Tri-Valley, 7:20.47.
Kingston, Liberty and Sullivan West competed in the race, but did not finish.
In addition to the Monticello trio of Haley Heins, Klein and Lindholm, many other county skiers placed in the top 15 in the girls’ race. They were: 4. Sara Coney, Fallsburg/Tri-Valley, 37.17; 5. Kassie Thelman, Sullivan West, 37.38; 11. Elizabeth Bracken, Fallsburg/Tri-Valley, 42.06; 12. Kamry Conboy, Liberty, 42.09 and 14. Ashley McEneany, Monticello, 46.19.
