Monticello Panther Senior P/1B Pat Ripa

Pat Ripa and Bobby Wagner named captains of Monticello baseball team

Contributed Story
MONTICELLO — With the first pitch of the 2011 baseball season just 10 days away, Monticello baseball Head Coach Mike Marra has announced that seniors Bobby Wagner and Patrick Ripa have been named team captains.
“I am really proud of Bobby and Patrick,” Marra said. “It’s an honor to be a captain of the Monticello baseball team, and they will all help provide leadership both on and off the field for our ballclub in 2011.”
Wagner is a senior who will be heading to Westfield State College next fall. As the team’s shortstop and pitcher, Wagner has been a starter for four years.
He was recently named by Collegiate Baseball as one of the top New York State high school baseball prospects. This past summer, Wagner was named to Hudson Valley’s Empire State Games baseball team, the first player in Monticello High School history to achieve that honor.
Ripa is also a four-year starter. He has been the No. 1 starting pitcher in the Panthers’ rotation for the past three seasons. He plays first base when he is not pitching.
Ripa is still deciding on a college choice – either Clarkson or Dartmouth – for next fall.
“Both of these guys understand what it means to play baseball in a Monticello uniform,” Marra said. “They have both have been an integral part of the transformation of Monticello going from having a baseball team to having a baseball program.
“They not only wear the uniform with pride, but they uphold the standards and traditions of how to play the game the Monticello way,” praised Marra.
