Darder’s Stone Works rallies to defeat The Stone Arch, 7-5

By Laura Stabbert
CALLICOON — Orion Darder and Mark Tesseyman scored in the final inning to lift Darder Stone Works to a 7-5 victory over The Stone Arch in a Sullivan County Beer League softball game on Wednesday night at the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon.
Dennis Brockner pitched for The Stone Arch (9-2), and started the game by putting down Darder Stone Works’ first three batters in order.
In the second inning Andrew Yager hit a home run and Tim Yager scored off David Hubert’s hit to give The Stone Arch a two-run lead.
But Darder’s Stone Works answered by scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
In the fifth inning, Jason Leewe had a hit to deep center field. He expressed his frustration that the hit didn’t cross the fence into home run territory, but his triple drove in Steve Musso and put Darder’s Stone Works up by one run. Leewe tagged up and scored before the inning ended to put Darder’s Stone Works ahead 5-3 going into the sixth frame.
In the top of the sixth inning, there was some confusion in the outfield and the error turned Chris Hubert’s hit into a triple. Andrew Yager was next at-bat for The Stone Arch. He also tripled and scored to make the score 5-5.
In the bottom of the sixth, Darder had a double and Tesseyman drove him home with a triple to give Darder’s Stone Works a 6-5 advantage. Tesseyman scored and Darder’s Stone Works needed to hold The Stone Arch in the seventh inning.
Darder’s Stone Works pitcher Eric Leewe was able to get the first two batters out. He then ended the game by making Logan Grishaber fly out.
With the three quick outs, Darder’s Stone Works recorded the victory and advanced its record to 10-1.
