Craig Hummel wins heaviest deer title

CALLICOON — By taking a 181 lb. buck while hunting on Nov. 23 in the Town of Thompson, Craig Hummel of Grahamsville won the Heaviest Deer Division of the Democrat’s 36th annual Big Buck Contest.
Hummel, who will receive a $100 first prize, had his buck officially weighed in for the contest, which was for both bucks and does, at the Monticello Fire Department.
Mike Chanov of Liberty will receive the runner-up prize of $50. On Nov. 21, Chanov took a 166 lb. buck while hunting in the Town of Liberty.
The third place prize of $25 goes to Gordon Davis of West Chester, Pa. On Nov. 21, Davis took a 164 lb. buck while hunting in the Town of Bethel.
