Myers, Proscia lead locals at state X-C meet

By Rob Potter
SULLIVAN COUNTY — A total of 16 athletes from Sullivan County high schools competed on Saturday at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) cross country meet at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Turning in the best individual performances in their respective classes were Eldred sophomore Hunter Proscia and Sullivan West freshman Dani Myers. Proscia ran the course in a time of 16 minutes, 38.2 seconds to place 11th in the boys’ Class D race.
Myers finished 21st in the girls’ Class C race in a time of 19:46.6.
Proscia’s Eldred teammate, freshman Alex Campanella, was 31st in the boys’ Class D event with a time of 17:18.2.
Myers’ SW teammate, junior Rianne Erlwein, placed 52nd in girls’ Class C with a time of 20:43.
Tri-Valley junior Caroline Bertholf crossed the finish line seconds after Erlwein. Bertholf’s time was 20:46.9.
Monticello had two runners entered in the boys’ Class A event and a trio of runners competing in the girls’ Class A race.
In the boys’ race, senior Dave Wilbur placed 38th in 16:40.3 and senior Thomas Gonzalez finished 87th in 17:37.3.
In the girls’ race, junior Kristen Harrington was 75th in 20:49.3, junior Ana Loor finished 85th in 21:02.8 and sophomore Erica Concors placed 106th in 21:53.2.
In the girls’ Class D race, Eldred sophomore Christine Donnelly placed 62nd in 21:45.7.
Donnelly was joined by five of her Lady Yellowjacket teammates at the meet. Originally, the S.S. Seward girls’ team was supposed to represent Section IX in the girls’ Class D NYSPHSAA race after winning the title at the sectional meet on Nov. 6 at Bear Mountain State Park. But some of the members of the Seward Lady Spartans cross country squad also play for the school’s girls’ soccer team, which defeated North Salem, 3-1, on penalty kicks last Wednesday afternoon at Faller Field in Middletown in the opening round of the state Class C girls’ soccer tournament.
As a result, Donnelly and teammates Kristina Brown, Regina Davies, Selena Hudak, Erika Vorstadt and Samantha Warden all ran in the Class D event in Plattsburgh.
Vorstadt, a junior, placed 80th in 23:09.8, Hudak, a freshman, was 89th in 23:43.9, Davies, a senior, was 90th in 23:44.4, Brown, a senior, placed 92nd in 23:57.8 and Warden, a freshman, was 111th in 27:06.2.
