Jake Classic's back

SOUTH FALLSBURG — The Tarry Brae Golf Course hosted the seventh annual Jake Classic on Saturday, June 6.
Two $1,000 scholarships were awarded at the golf tournament, which is held by the Sullivan County Probation Officers Association each June in honor of the late New York State Assemblyman Jake Gunther.
Michael Carlstrom, a senior at Middletown High School, was the first scholarship recipient. He will be attending Orange County Community College in the fall.
Roscoe Central School Valedictorian Katelyn Horton received the second scholarship. She will be attending SUNY Canton come fall.
Aileen Gunther, widow of Jake Gunther, attended the tournament but could not stay to present the scholarships. Her brother, Thomas Luddington, and father, Eugene Malone, awarded the scholarships on her behalf.
Golfers participating in the tournament competed for prizes for closest to the pin on hole No. 7, straightest drive on hole No. 14 and longest drive on hole No. 16. Tim TerBush and Elizabeth Fanning won the closest to the pin prizes, Tim Davidian and Kimmy Botsford had the straightest drives and Tyler White and Kaitlin Fanning won the longest drive prizes.
The team of Don Mackey, Chris Nagel, Pete Sarnecky and Rich Schindler representing the Corrections Officers of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department won the Law Enforcement team division. They will keep the prestigious Jake Cup trophy until the 2010 event.
The winning team in the Civilian team division was Sandy Diamond, Mike Kaufman, Chris Masters and Tyler White.
