Fallsburg’s Ethan Herrara competes in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles on Tuesday afternoon at the 2009 Sullivan County Meet of Champions at the Jeffersonville campus of the Sullivan West Central School District. Herrara finished second in the event with a time of 18 seconds flat.

JEFFERSONVILLE — Track and field athletes from several schools participated in the Sullivan County Meet of Champions on Tuesday afternoon at the Jeffersonville campus of the Sullivan West Central School District.
The weather was nearly perfect for the competition. There was hardly a breeze and the air was warm, but not humid, under bright, sunny skies.
In this meet, no team scores were kept.
Winners of multiple events in the boys’ competition included Liberty teammates Tim Burgio, Greg Castro, Luis Hidalgo and Malcolm Strother, Monticello’s Jacob Rubin and Tri-Valley’s Bob Fielder.
Liberty’s 400-meter relay team of Burgio, Castro, Hidalgo and Strother won that event in a time of 46.6 seconds.
Strother won the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds, the 200 (23.2 seconds) and high jump (6-feet even). Burgio won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 61.1 seconds, Hidalgo took first place in the long jump (19 feet, 6 1/2 inches) and Castro placed first in the pole vault (12-6).
Fiedler prevailed in the discus (131-1) and shot put (45-3).
Rubin placed first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:02.8. He also teamed with James Dzurica, Dom Martinez and Matt Rodriguez to win the 3,200 relay in 9:07.4.

In the girls’ competition, SW’s Sara Alsdorf and Morgan Hawkins and Monticello’s Anastasia Bowden, Emma Cohen, Jessica Fingers and Nyoki Tate all scored multiple victories.
Alsdorf won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.4 seconds and teamed with Kendra Barker, Lindsey Murphy and Kasi Pilny to finish first in the 400 relay in a time of 53.9 seconds.
Hawkins won two events, the 400 hurdles (68.9 seconds) and the pole vault (8-6).
Bowden won the 100 (13.2 seconds) and 200 (27.0).
Cohen placed first in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:51 and teamed with Rebecca Concors, Jessica Fingers and Shanne Watkins to win the 3,200 relay in 10:54.
In addition to being on the winning 3,200 relay team, Fingers earned first place finishes in the 3,000 (11:46), 800 (2:30.7) and 1,500 (5:09.7).
Tate won the 400 (61.7 seconds) and the triple jump (31-11 1/2).
