The Tri-Valley Youth Football Program players and coaches have been practicing diligently for the past two weeks to get ready for the upcoming season.

T-V Youth Football Program begins third season with 85 players, 47 cheerleaders

GRAHAMSVILLE — August 31, 2010 — Coaches, players and cheerleaders are excited about the Tri-Valley Youth Football Program beginning its third season.
“These players are chomping at the bit, they are ready to go,” Coach Greg Botsford said last Wednesday night as he prepared to start practice at Tri-Valley Central School.
“Some of these players are in their third year with the program,” he continued. “The practices have been going really well. They are working hard and having a good time.”
Greg Botsford, who also serves as the program’s commissioner along with his wife Kimberly Botsford, is pleased by an increase in the number of players.
“We have 85 players this year, which is up from about 65 players last year,” he said.
Those 85 players will be divided into three teams this autumn. The Mighty Mights will be comprised of 14 second-graders. The Pee Wees will include 18 third-graders and 21 fourth-graders. The Juniors will feature 16 fifth-graders and 16 sixth-graders.
And those football teams aren’t just for boys. Two girls – Casie Allison and Krysia Curry – are playing on the teams. This is Allison’s third season and Curry’s first season.
Helping Greg Botsford guide the teams will be Coaches Jon Allison, Fernando Costa, Eric Coddington, Bryan Delaney, Nial Edwards, B.J. Hendrickson, Chris Krummack, Keith Mentnech, Dominick Scanna, Jerry Stevens, Charlie Streimer, Lyle Wilsen and Tim Yager.
Greg Botsford noted that the coaching staff is very experienced. For example, Jon Allison was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Tri-Valley Central School varsity football team many years ago.
The cheerleading team for boys and girls in second grade through seventh grade is led by Coach Margo Bowers-Hendrickson. The team had 12 girls last year, but there are 47 members on this year’s cheerleading squad.
“Things are going well,” Bowers-Hendrickson said. “This a good group of kids. They listen well and work hard at every practice.”
The Tri-Valley Youth Football Program teams will compete in the Sullivan County Youth Football League. The T-V teams will play two games each against the Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation Warriors, Rockland Devil Cats and SCORS’ Monticello Jaguars.
Greg Botsford noted that Jason Semo of the Liberty Warriors and Bill Hendrickson of the Rockland Devil Cats “helped us get our program off the ground.”
Kimberly Botsford said that the league will be holding a golf tournament as a fundraiser this autumn. The tourney will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Tarry Brae Golf Course in South Fallsburg. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and golfing will start at 9 a.m.
The fee is $60 per golfer, which includes a cart and lunch. Local businesses are invited to sponsor a hole for $50.
