Team Schiff defeats Holiday Mountain in Liberty Slo-Pitch League game

LIBERTY — July 9, 2010 — Team Schiff took on Holiday Mountain in a Liberty Slo-Pitch Softball League “B” Division game on Tuesday night at the Liberty Elementary School.
The intense heat didn’t stop Team Schiff from defeating Holiday Mountain by the final score of 23-10.
Team Schiff started off slow and didn’t score any runs in the top of the first inning.
But Holiday Mountain (0-9) took advantage of its first at-bat by scoring four runs. Pete Dworetsky hit a single and then advanced to second and third due to passed balls. Dworetsky scored when Jeih Hook grounded out.
Later in the bottom of the first, Justin Wilcox tripled to right field to bring home teammates Andrew Dworetsky and Joe Wilcox.
Pat Carlucci led off the top of the second with a solo home run to put Team Schiff (4-8) on the board.
Team Schiff held Holiday Mountain from scoring in the bottom of the second, but Holiday Mountain retained its 4-1 lead.
In the top of the third, Team Schiff scored seven runs to take an 8-4 advantage. Some highlights of the inning included Ed Reichenbaugh hitting a double to bring home Devin Corbett and Raffe Gonzalez singling to allow Jeff Cohen and Ed Reichenbaugh to cross home plate.
In addition, Carlucci and Pete Hefele both scored on a base hit by Paul Hein and Joe Velders singled home Allen Pate.
Holiday Mountain’s Andrew Dworetsky and Joe Wilcox started off the bottom of the third with consecutive singles. Justin Wilcox brought home Andrew Dworetsky with a single to make it an 8-5 game. But Team Schiff pitcher Hefele recorded a strikeout and his teammates got the next two batters out to end the inning.
Team Schiff scored 10 runs in the top of the fourth. Ed Reichenbaugh hit a double, bringing home Hector Torres. Gonzalez slammed a single to allow Cohen to score. Reichenbaugh scored on a single by Hefele and Carlucci doubled to left field to score Gonzalez.
Later in the frame, Rob Kachelriess tripled to bring home Hefele and Carlucci. Kachelriess then scored on a single by Pate. Velders came home due to a passed ball. Cohen singled to bring Corbett and Hector Torres in to score.
Andrew Dworetsky scored a run for Holiday Mountain during the the bottom of the fourth, which cut the Team Schiff lead to 18-6.
Team Schiff added two runs in the top of the fifth as Carlucci singled to score Gonzalez and Pate doubled to bring home Hefele.
In the bottom of the fifth, Holiday Mountain added a run as Anthony Dworetsky crossed home plate on a base hit by Jerry Novobilski.
In the bottom of the sixth, Joe Wilcox hit a three-run home run to bring Holiday Mountain a little closer at 20-9. But Team Schiff quickly recorded three outs to take an 11-run lead into the final inning.
Team Schiff added three runs in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Pate and Hein both hit RBI singles.
Novobilski hit a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the seventh for the final run of the evening.
Carlucci, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Hein, who was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, paced the Team Schiff offense.
Novobilski, who went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, and Joe Wilcox, who was 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, led Holiday Mountain.
