Beekman tops Liberty United in youth soccer league game

HARRIS — June 25, 2010 — The Liberty United Lady Devils Under-13 girls’ soccer team played its final home game of the season on Sunday, June 13 at the Center For Discovery in Harris.
Unfortunately for the Lady Devils, they were unable to record their first win of the season on that afternoon. The Beekman Fury defeated Liberty United, 6-0, in the East Hudson Youth Soccer League game.
Julia Neville and Gianna Perri each scored two goals to lead Beekman (7-3-4) to the win. Neville scored both of her goals in the first half to give the Fury a 2-0 lead at halftime. Perri tallied her pair of goals during the first 30 minutes of the second half.
Sisters Samantha Reck and Savannah Reck were the goalkeepers for Liberty United (0-7). Samantha was the keeper for the first half and Savannah was the goalie for the second half. Both girls made several saves to prevent the Fury’s margin of victory from being even larger.
“The girls are disappointed because this is the first time in our seven games this season that we haven’t scored a goal,” Liberty United Coach Anne Ramos said. “But they were aggressive and didn’t back down against this team.”
Ramos noted that the Lady Devils are a very young Under-13 team. Four of the players are under the age of 12, including two who are 10 years old.
“We have a couple of first time players on the team, but most of the girls have played AYSO soccer,” Ramos said.
Although the outcome against Beekman wasn’t the one that Ramos and her players were hoping for, she focused on the positive aspects of the season.
“The team made a lot of progress,” Ramos said. “The players improved with every game.”
