LIBERTY — May 4, 2010 — The visiting Onteora Indians met the Liberty Indians on Friday afternoon in a non-league baseball game.
At the end of seven innings of play, Onteora prevailed, 9-3.
In the top of the first inning, Onteora (8-2) had four hits that led to three runs. Finn Alvaro, Adam Greenlese and Alec Chun scored the three runs.
The team took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third as Greenlese scored another run.
Liberty (2-7) was unable to answer until the bottom of the sixth. In that half-inning, the hometeam Indians pieced together three runs by Joe Franke, Connor Siegel and Adam Hendrix. Those runs narrowed the Onteora advantage to 4-3.
However, Onteora responded in the top of the seventh inning by recording five runs on six hits. Greenlese, Chun, Charlie Fina and Ty Downes scored the runs.
Hendrix and Franke led the Liberty offense with two RBIs and two hits, respectively.
This week, the Liberty Indians are slated to face the James I. O’Neill Raiders in a three-game Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division IV series.
The teams were scheduled to play the opener yesterday afternoon in Liberty. Today, the Indians will travel to O’Neill. The teams will finish the series on Thursday afternoon in Liberty.
