Liberty boys, Sullivan West girls prevail in OCIAA Div. IV track meet

JEFFERSONVILLE — April 13, 2010 — Track and field athletes from Liberty and Sullivan West met last Wednesday afternoon at the Jeffersonville campus of the Sullivan West Central School District for an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division IV meet.
With temperatures in the 80s, it was a perfect day for a league opener and the mood reflected as such. In the girls’ competition, the SW Lady Bulldogs defeated the Liberty Lady Indians by the score of 85-55. In the boys’ competition, the Liberty Indians edged the SW Bulldogs,75-66.
Liberty Indians improved to 1-0, while the SW Bulldogs are 0-1. The SW Lady Bulldogs are 1-0 and the Liberty Lady Indians have a record of 0-1.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams from Liberty and SW will be back in action tomorrow afternoon. Liberty will host John S. Burke Catholic High School and SW will host Chapel Field.
Boys who won multiple events included SW’s Austin Erlwein and Reed Scott and Liberty’s Tim Burgio, Erick Cuellar and Ryan Harnish. Burgio won all four events he entered – long jump, triple jump, 400-meter hurdles and 1600-meter relay.
In the girls’ competition, multiple event winners included SW’s Kendra Barker, Rianne Erlwein, Katie Manzi and Stephanie Robinson and Liberty’s Jessica Dunnigan and Rebecca Harman. Dunnigan won all four of her events – 200-meter dash, long jump, triple jump and 400-meter relay.
