Team Fox invites golfers to ‘Pars for Parkinson’s’ event

By Rob Potter
SULLIVAN COUNTY — January 29, 2010 — Although it’s still winter, the recent warm temperatures which melted some snow on front lawns undoubtedly had golfers around the county thinking about getting out on the county’s golf courses this spring and summer.
If those golfers want to support a worthy cause while playing their favorite sport, they should consider that Team Fox invites them to “Pars for Parkinson’s,” a golf outing which will benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Parkinson’s is a progressive and incurable neurological disease that affects more than five million people worldwide.
The event will take place on Friday, June 11 at Lochmor Golf Course in Loch Sheldrake.
The outing includes an 8 a.m. breakfast, tee-off at 9:30 a.m. and a 2 p.m. lunch.
There will be prizes, awards and lots of fun.
Debby and Lou Flancbaum are the Co-Chairs for the event. The couple lives in Teaneck, N.J. and has a summer residence in Loch Sheldrake.
The members of the event’s Steering Committee: are L’via Weisinger, Les Glubo, Marlene Rhodes, Cindy and Brian Blitz, Ricki Kudowitz, Orna Zack, Avi Goldin, Tova Flancbaum, Ira Goetz and Vicki and Alex Wulwick.
Debby Flancbaum noted that several people have helped with organizing the event. Among them are Mike Decker, who is the PGA Apprentice at Lochmor, Glenn Sonnenschein, the PGA Professional at Lochmor, and Natalie Rogers, a therapist in Manhattan.
Debby Flancbaum noted that Rogers, who has a bungalow next door to the Flancbaums in Loch Sheldrake Beach and Tennis, “is going to offer a workshop at the golf outing [before tee time] for those who are interested in increasing concentration and improving focus during golf.
“M & M Auto Group of Liberty is providing the hole-in-one prize,” Debby Flancbaum said. “If a golfer scores a hole-in-one on the ninth hole, they will receive a three-year lease on a new 2010 Ford Fusion.”
Flancbaum noted that all of the food at the event will be strictly kosher.
Player sponsors are from $180 to $1,000 per person and $600 to $3,000 for foursomes.
Individuals and businesses can sponsor a hole or donate prizes. Sponsorships are still available at the $250, $500, $750 and $1,000 levels.
All donations are greatly appreciated. Checks, made payable to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, may be mailed to Debby Flancbaum, 1218 East Laurelton Parkway, Teaneck, NJ 07666.
People who wish to donate can also pay directly via the Team Fox Web site, which is www.teamfox.org/teamfox/flancbaum.
If you want to play in the tournament, sponsor a hole, donate prizes or want more information, Debby and Lou Flancbaum want to hear from you.
