Nicolle M. Marquez
Office Manager, 24

Nicolle Mayte Marquez, 24, died suddenly of unknown causes July 14, 2013 at her home in Buchanan, NY.
Born May 15, 1989, Nicolle was the only daughter of Jorge and Rosa Olinda Marquez of Jupiter, Florida. A healthy young woman, according to her family, results of the medical examination and circumstances are pending.
Nicolle graduated in 2007 from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY, but called Middletown, NY, her home town. She was a licensed cosmetologist and worked near her residence as the office manager at JP McHale Pest Management, Inc. in Buchanan.
Nicolle is survived by her son, Marco Antonio Marquez, 3, who lives with parents, Rosa and Jorge Marquez; brother John Paul Marquez of Montrose, NY; aunt Carmen Rue of Monticello, NY; aunts Gladys Hernandez, Maria Tuliano, uncle Jorge Hernandez of Callao, Peru; aunt Norma Marquez Dupuy in Lima, Peru; as well as cousins Janesa Calone of Highland Mills; Eddie Rue of Monticello; Carolina Rue of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Alain Diaz and Yesenia Carr of Monticello; and other aunts, uncles, and cousins in Peru.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local domestic violence advocacy organization of the donor's choice.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, July 20, 2013, at St. Christopher's Church, 3094 Albany Post Road, Buchanan, NY. Interment will follow by private arrangement of the family, assisted by Cortlandt Funeral Home, 97 Broadway, Verplank, NY 10594, 914-737-1110.

Thomas R. ‘Dooley’ Powers
October 27, 1939 - July 20, 2013

Tom Powers of Hankins, known to many of his friends as “Dooley,” passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old.
The son of the late Thomas E. Powers and Virginia R. Moore, Tom was born in New York City on October 27, 1939.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 and received his education as an English teacher at Yale University and Albany State University. Tom was a resident of Hankins, New York and for many years lived and worked at East Ridge, a recovery center for people with all kinds of addictions, which he and his father founded in 1964. He is remembered by many as an avid fisherman, folk singer, guitar player, writer, and teacher – and as a wonderfully humorous and loving father, husband, brother, and friend. Throughout his life he helped countless people with his words, his actions, and his example of a life lived for God.
Tom leaves behind his wife of nearly 36 years, Gwyn, whose care for him in his long illness was an inspiration to all around them. He is survived by seven children, their spouses, and fifteen grandchildren: Donna and Jim McKinney, Avery and Mallory; Nancy and Royal Harris, Jacob and Nathan; Steve and Kristin Powers; Lisa and Steve Feldman, Ted, Lucy, and Maggie; Rebecca and Nate Zaur, Jean, Sophie, and Natalie; Amy and Paul Smith, Lewis, Irene, and Malcolm; John and Stephanie Powers, Ethan and Timothy. He is also survived by four sisters: Katherine Curtis, Claire Powers, Joan Stein, and Rachel Dingle.
Private funeral and graveside services were held on Monday, July 22nd.
Burial will be made in the Callicoon Cemetery.

Rebe Katzowitz Proyect
January 25, 1921 - July 19, 2013

Rebe Proyect of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Woodridge, NY, a lifetime area resident and the business partner and widow of David Proyect of Proyect Construction Corp., died peacefully in Hospice by the Sea on Friday, July 19, 2013. She was 92.
Rebe was born in Woodridge the daughter of Solomon and Dora Deitch Katzowitz. She was a member of Congregation Ohave Shalom as well as a member of the Sisterhood, the Woodridge Kiwanis Club, a life member of Hadassah, and Workman Circle #281.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Proyect Feldman and her husband Barry Feldman; her son, Steven Proyect and his wife Irene; four grandchildren, Seth Feldman, Jessica Feldman Mashkevich Jodi and Jared Proyect; her six great grandchildren, Benjamin and Ellie Mashkevich, Drew and Danielle Feldman, and Tristen and Alex Sherman; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Rebe was predeceased by her husband, David; her brothers, Rubin, Sam and Issac Katzowitz; and her sisters, Mary Cohen and Lillian Kassowitz.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 22, 2013 at Congregation Ohave Shalom in Woodridge. Rabbi Irving Goodman officiated. Burial was made in the Workman Circle #281 cemetery, Marsh Rd., Glen Wild, NY.

Lawrence B. Miller
April 1, 1939 – July 21, 2013

Lawrence B. Miller, a longtime Hurleyville resident and the owner and operator of Lawrence B. Miller & Associates, died on Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Catskill Regional Medical Center Harris, NY. He was 72.
Lawrence was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of William and Gertrude Eichler Miller. Larry was predeceased by his wife, Feige Merantz, in 2007.
He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Meadow of Woodstock, GA; his nephews, Brian and Ronald Meadow; his niece, Bonnie Bolen, and his grandnieces and nephews, Jordan, Sara, Debbie, Christy, Jennie Hannah Michael and Emma. He is also survived by a host of friends and business associates including Maryellen and her husband Bill, Susan and her husband Jay and Jenn and her husband Mark.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz will officiate.
Burial will be in the United Hebrew Cemetery, Staten Island.

Scott E. Green
Retired USPS Mail Carrier, 54

Scott E. Green of White Sulphur Springs, NY, a retired rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, Parksville, NY, and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.  He was 54.
The son of Jerald and Mary Sue Schillinger Green, he was born September 14, 1958 in Liberty, NY.
Scott is a former commissioner for the White Sulphur Springs Fire District.
Survivors include three sons, Casey S. Green and his wife Ashlee of White Sulphur Springs, NY, Daniel J. Green of Smyrna, GA, and Joshua A. DeCarlo of Parksville, NY; their mother, Linda Green DeCarlo and her husband Gene of Parksville, NY; his parents, Jerald and Mary Sue Green of White Sulphur Springs; two brothers, Troy Green of White Sulphur Springs, and Todd Green of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Vaun and Wyatt Green; one step-daughter, Kori Valentine; a niece and several nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Funeral services will be Friday July 26, 2013 at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be private in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NY.

Angelo Niforatos
Founder & Former Owner of Roscoe Diner, 78

Angelo Niforatos of Roscoe, NY, and New Port Richey, FL, the founder and a former owner of the Roscoe Diner, Roscoe, NY, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Westchester County Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. He was 78.
The son of the late Thomas and Eleftheria “Helen” Niforatos, he was born May 2, 1935 in Kefalonia, Greece.
Angelo is a former member of the Roscoe-Rockland Chamber of Commerce; a former member of the Roscoe Kiwanis Club; a former Boy Scout Sponsor for the Roscoe Boy Scouts; and he was a supporter of Roscoe-Rockland Fire Company and the Roscoe Central School.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Kervavas Niforatos, at home; two daughters, Eleanor Kaimakliotis and her husband John of the Republic of Cyprus and Demetra Niforatos of FL; two sons, Thomas Niforatos and his wife Tanya of Binghamton, NY and Christopher A. Niforatos and his wife Despina of Odessa, FL; one brother, Thomas Niforatos and his wife Joyce of St. Charles, IL; 15 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial was celebrated Monday, July 22, 2013 at St. Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church, Roscoe, NY, with Father Iakovos Fitzpatrick officiating.
Entombment will be Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Sylvan Abbey, Clearwater, FL.

Doris A. Korth
Retired Assessor, Town of Rockland, 85

Doris A. Korth died on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. She was 85.
The daughter of Benjamin F. Eldred and Edna Metzger Eldred, she was born on May 31, 1928 in Callicoon, NY.
She was a retired assessor for the Town of Rockland, a member of the New York State Assessor’s Association and a lifetime member of the Sullivan County Assessor’s Association.
Her greatest accomplishment was her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a big part of all of their lives. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her four children, Dian M. Bogert of Beach Lake, PA, David W. Korth of Waldorf, MD, Linda G. Robinson of Colorado Springs, CO and Janet L. Clewell of Beach Lake, PA; her brother, Robert Eldred of Rome, NY; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd R. Korth, and her brother, Ronald H. Eldred.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Callicoon Center Cemetery, Callicoon Center, NY followed by a celebration of her life.
Memorial contributions can be made to the United Reformed Church, Youngsville, NY 12791; the Jeffersonville Volunteer First Aid Squad, Jeffersonville, NY 12748 or to the charity of one’s choice.
