Janet Elizabeth Umhoefer
Formerly of Jeffersonville, 83

Janet Elizabeth Umhoefer passed away peacefully on September 29, 2012 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was 83.
Janet was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Howard and Marie Baldwin.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and was Church Secretary for 15 years where she loved working with all aspects of running a church. Janet will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and most of all her selflessness. With an open heart she always made time for her family, and children in need. As a devoted mother, she spent every free moment with her children and grandchildren, attending their extracurricular activities and providing guidance during life’s trials and tribulations. Her selfless acts were not limited to her internal family. Janet spent many years working with special needs children and, as always, created a magnetic bond with the children and parents. She was a woman with purpose, out to make this world a better place than when she found it, and for that we honor her.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edgar Umhoefer; and her three loving children, Donald, Susan (Robbie) Zimmer, and Richard. Janet has eight grandchildren and she especially had a special place in her heart for Nicole, Kristi and Kristi’s husband, Joseph Karadchy. She also had seven great-grandchildren, with a special place in her heart for Michael, Christopher, Noah and Layla.
The family is at her daughter Susan’s home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Phillip Coggins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Piano Fund, 246 St. Paul’s Church Road, Gilbert, SC 29054, or to Cure Pancreatic Cancer, Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714.
Online register at Barr-price.com, (803) 532-4411.
