Michael J. Schulte
Electrical Engineer, 47

Michael J. Schulte, of Grahamsville, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 47.
He was the son of William and June Wicks Schulte, born on April 24, 1965.
He was a proud graduate of Tri-Valley High School class of 1983. He then continued his education at Ulster County Community College where he graduated as an Electrical Engineer. He began his career at NYSEG over 25 years ago and was currently a Chief Line Mechanic. He was a true outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, four-wheeling and snowmobiling. He was a member of the IBEW Local 83, the Liberty Elks Club and the Buckeroo Lodge Hunting Camp. Michael was a member of the Grahamsville Reformed Church and an Eagle Scout. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his two sons: Michael and Joseph. He was a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend to all that knew and loved him. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married on July 18, 1998, Dena Schulte; his two sons: Michael W. and Joseph D. Schulte; his parents, William and June Schulte; his siblings: Julie Starner and her husband, Don and their daughter, Emily of Grahamsville and daughter Rebecca and family of Germany, and son Joseph and family of Maryland, William Schulte and his wife, Vickie and their children: Sara, Kara of California, and Morgan and Katie of Missouri, and James Schulte and his wife, Maxine and their son, Jacob of Grahamsville; his three godchildren: Courtney, Michael, and Kimberly Kelly, his mother-in-law Jean Maxson, his father-in-law Michael Holley, his Uncle Warren “Butch” and his Aunt Susan Wicks of Fort Montgomery several cousins and endless wonderful friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery at 10 a.m. Rev. Paul Z. Ruter will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s name can be made to the Grahamsville Reformed Church, State Route 55, Grahamsville, NY 12740 or the charity of one’s choice.

Peter F. Heins Sr.
Owner of The Outlet Florist and Gift Shop, 72

Peter F. Heins Sr., the owner/operator of The Outlet Florist and Gift Shop, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his home in Livingston Manor. He was 72.
The son of the late William Heins Sr. and Eleanor Hudson, he was born March 15, 1940 in Monticello.
A graduate of Monticello High School in 1959, Pete was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1959-1961. He was also an accomplished auctioneer, and a lifetime member of the Monticello Elk's Lodge #1544 and the Mahogany Ridge Hunting Camp.
He is survived by his wife: Patricia Rex Heins, at home; his children: Peter Heins Jr. of Cornish, NH, Melinda Heins and her husband Golam Prince of Lebanon, NH and Frederick Heins and his wife Kathleen of Liberty; three grandchildren: Nicole, Frederick Jr. and Mickaylla; a stepdaughter: Elisabeth Rex Minkoff & her husband Scott of Potomac, MD; a step grandson: Charles Rex Minkoff; five brothers: Peter Sheppard (Anne) of Deerpark, Williams Heins Jr. (Judy) of Michigan, James Sheppard (Joyce) of Schenectady, Wayne Heins (Sheila) of Monticello and Robert Heins (Shelley) of White Plains; four sisters: Patricia Lawrence (Mal Z) of Monticello, Sally Jasuta (David) of Forestburgh, Eleanor Vallone of Hicksville and Elizabeth Verrier (Steve) of Teaneck, NJ; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his loyal buddy Star.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother: Carolyn Emily Heins and a granddaughter: Kaitlyn Kimberly Conrad.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, December 15 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Thomason officiating.
Interment of his ashes will be held at a later date at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions can be made to a fund that will be established to benefit his grandchildren. These can be sent directly to the family.

Walter O. Smith
Retired Owner of Walter Smith Appliance Repair, 86

Walter O. Smith of Liberty, NY, retired owner of Walter Smith Appliance Repair, and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility, Liberty, NY. He was 86.
The son of the late Edsall and Moyer Durland Smith, he was born August 12, 1926 in Hurleyville, NY.
Walter was a member, for over 50 years, of the Liberty Truck and Hose Company #2; he was a former member of Liberty Elks #1545; and a member of the Red Horse Hunting Club, Claryville, NY.
Survivors include his wife, Edna H. Fries Smith, at home; three sons, Stephen Smith and his wife Kathi of Neversink, NY, Michael Smith of Liberty, NY, and Alan Smith and his wife Susan of New Zealand; and four grandsons, Christopher, Matthew, Zane, and Zachary.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. John Thomason will officiate.
Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.
Memorial contributions in Walter’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
