Mabel Caroline Oestrich, 92
September 7, 1919 – August 9, 2012

Mabel Caroline Oestrich of West Hempstead, NY, died at Franklin General Hospital, Franklin Square, NY. She was 92.
The daughter of the late Gustave Ernest Oestrich and Ida Mabel Biedekapp Oestrich, she was born September 7, 1919 in Long Eddy, NY.
Mabel graduated from Long Eddy High School in 1936 and then went on to Albany University Teachers College. After Graduating in she taught math in Hudson, NY and then on to Sewanhaka High School in Floral park, NY for the next 39 years. She retired in 1979. Mabel loved to travel and took many visits to Europe, and a wonderful trip to Russia. Mabel supported the arts and loved opera, symphony, chamber music and ballet.
Mabel was the kind of person who touched many lives and was loved by all. She always had a story to tell with a wealth of knowledge.
She is survived by her sister Katharine M. Oestrich Lindberg of Long Eddy, NY and four generations of nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, four brothers; Robert, Raymond, Walter and Carl Oestrich, and two sisters, Dorothy Ray and Doris Schrier.
A special thank you to her great niece, Stephanie Young for her loving attention, and also to Esther Nicholas her wonderful caregiver.
Mabel will be greatly missed by all of the lives she has touched.
There will be no visitation, a graveside service will be held at Rock Valley Cemetery in Long Eddy, NY on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a gathering at the Katharine Lindberg’s Home: 279 Basket Rd., Long Eddy NY 12760.
No flowers please, memorial donations may be made to: Help Hospitalized Veterans, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 758505, Topeka, KS 66675-8505.
