Mildred Ludwig Snedeker, 84
August 5, 1927 - April 22, 2012

Mildred Ludwig Snedeker of Fosterdale died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at home, surrounded by her family. She was married for 52 years to Philip Snedeker who passed away in 2003.
Mildred, the daughter of Charles and Barbara Mueller Ludwig, was born on August 5, 1927 at Bethany Deaconess Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.
She worked for Union Carbide & Carbon Corp. in NYC, the Electric Company in Monticello, and was an Avon Representative. Her most rewarding job was being a stay at home mom.
Mildred worshiped at Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church in Lake Huntington, NY. She was a member of the Rosary Society, a trustee for the Fosterdale Methodist Church Cemetery Inc., a Lake Huntington Red Hatter, a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and a former member of the Cochecton Home Bureau. Since 1976, she thoroughly enjoyed her weekly quilting with her “sisters” from church.
Survivors include four sons: Glen Snedeker and his wife, Mary, of Callicoon; Alan Snedeker and his wife, Adrienne, of Bethel; Bruce Snedeker and his wife, Cindy, of Kenoza Lake and Roger Snedeker and his wife, Jenny, of Narrowsburg; one daughter, Barbara Schultz and her husband, Joseph, of Hortonville; one son-in-law, Dale Zajac of Rochester; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Levine of Chattanooga, TN, and Helen Snedeker of Kenoza Lake. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: James, Neil, Steven and Kristen Snedeker; Laura Snedeker; Brandy and Kevin Snedeker, Craig and Dawn Snedeker, Teresa Schultz and Melinda Marks and her husband, Fred. Mildred also had three great-grandchildren: Dakota and Zoie Marks and Jayden Ross, as well as six nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; her brother, Albert Ludwig; and her daughter, Diane Zajac.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, NY.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Huntington on Wednesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. with Father Bill Skully officiating.
Burial will be in the Fosterdale Cemetery, Fosterdale.

Beatrice C. "Bea" Zemetra
Homemaker, 98

Beatrice C. "Bea" Zemetra, a homemaker, of Jeffersonville, NY since 1979, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Roscoe Regional Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 98.
She was born in Boston, MA on February 17, 1914 to the late Louis and Margaret Sullivan Daley.
Bea was a member of St. George's Church in Jeffersonville.
Survivors include one son, Richard Zemetra and his wife, Cheryl of Olympia, Washington; two granddaughters, Suzanne Grimm and her husband, Daniel, Michele Tamanaha and her husband, Jon, all of Olympia; three great grandchildren: Logan and Sidney Grimm and Cayli Tamanaha. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Anne Boustead.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 23 at St. George's Church in Jeffersonville with Father Ignatious Vu officiating.
Burial was made in Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville, NY.

Margaret "Maggie" Olver, 82
December 28, 1929 - April 19, 2012

Margaret "Maggie" Olver, age 82, of Kenoza Lake died at Catskill Regional Hospital on April 19, 2012. She was born in the Bronx on December 28, 1929, the daughter of Joseph Allgeier and Mary "Molly" Brown Allgeier. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Olver and her brother, Frank Allgeier.
Maggie is survived by her nephew, John (Mary Olver); cousins Stephanie (Kevin Verrill), Marlyn (Casimer Slizewski), Rita Bouldin, Doug Esselman, Marion Hosking; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, among them the Masciola and Graham families.
Raised in her beloved Kenoza Lake, Maggie spent many years serving families both locally and in Pennsylvania, as an extraordinary caregiver. Those families are forever grateful for her devotion to their loved ones.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Maggie made several trips to Ireland realizing her dream to find her mother's family. Maggie's wonderful spirit touched our lives with love, joy and laughter. She will be missed more than words can express.
A Memorial Mass will be said by Father Ignatius Vu at St. George's RC Church in Jeffersonville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28.

Robert H. Sherwood Sr.
Former mayor of Liberty, NY, 83

Robert H. "Bob" Sherwood Sr., 83, a lifelong resident of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. He was surrounded by family and friends and lovingly cared for by the Adult Care Staff and Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties in his last weeks.
Bob was the son of the late Robert and Julia Sherwood and was born on Sept. 29, 1928 in Liberty, NY.
As an entrepreneur, politician and Volunteer Firefighter, Bob's unassuming kindness to strangers, "fearless honesty" and hard-working approach to life, garnered him many friends from all walks of life. For nearly 50 years, Bob was the managing partner of a local trucking company, Liberty-Middletown Express. Bob was a lifelong member of the Liberty United Methodist Church; a member of the Red Vest Assn; served on the school board at the Liberty Central School District; was Mayor of the Village of Liberty for 8 years and was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge # 1545 of Liberty. His most vivid passion was Volunteer Fire Service. He was a member of the J.C. Young Hose Co. #1 for 62 years and served as the Chief of the Liberty Fire Dept. as well as President and Director of the Hudson Valley Fireman's Assn., and was a founder of the Firefighter’s Burn Treatment Fund of Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess Counties.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Pearl Muzuruk Sherwood, and sister, Katherine Burkard, Bob is survived by his children: Robert H. Sherwood Jr. (Barbara) of Thornton, CO, Donald Sherwood (Kirsten) of Ferndale, NY, and Rosetta Austin (Lemuel) of Loch Sheldrake, NY; a sister, Roe Dill of Lafayette, NY; four brothers, Vincent Mancusi of Springfield, VA, Harold Sherwood of Cicero, NY, Daniel Sherwood of Fayetteville, GA, and Charles Sherwood of Otego, NY; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory.
A Memorial Celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Liberty Fire House, 256 Sprague Ave, Liberty on Friday, April 27 from 7-9, Saturday, April 28 from 6-9 p.m. with Firematic Services at 8 p.m., and a final funeral service on Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Firehouse. All family and friends are invited to come and share stories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund, 157 Bushville/Swan Lake Rd., Ferndale, NY 12734 or to the Liberty Fire Dept., 256 Sprague Ave., Liberty, NY 12754.

Katherine N. Pierce
Retired AT&T Employee, 80

Katherine N. Pierce of Cochecton Center, NY, crossed over on April 19, 2012 at the age of 80 in Mechanicsville, VA.
Katherine was a long time employee of AT &T phone company in Monticello, NY, and retired from the Binghamton, NY branch.
Katherine was born in Goshen, NY, and was the daughter of the late William and Anna Mae Nelson.
She was the mother of Edward K. Pierce of Cochecton Center; Grandchildren Danielle, Carrie, Amanda, Edward and James; 2 Great Grandsons Akai and Noel; Daughter-in-law Ginger Lee Pierce of Cochecton Center; Grandchildren Ginger Irene and Roxanne; Daughter Kathy J Pierce of Mechanicsville, VA; Grand Doggies Patch and Toby; Nephew William (Annie) Nelson; Frederick (Linda) Nelson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward T. Pierce; her son, Kenneth S. Pierce; her brother, Donald P. Nelson; and nephew, Donald G. Nelson.

Services to be held at the gravesite of Edward T. Pierce at the Laurel Cemetery (Cochecton Center Cemetery) in Cochecton Center, NY, on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11 a.m.
