Mary Jane Wright
Retired NYTEL, 77
Mary Jane Wright, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center on November 14, 2008. She was 77.
Mary Jane was born Oct. 31, 1931 in Liberty, New York to the late Clayton Hallenbeck and the late Charlotte Linderman Hallenbeck. She was also predeceased by her husband Robert “Dibby” Wright and her sister Barbara Hallenbeck.
After retiring from the New York Telephone Company, she enjoyed reading, writing, traveling with friends and spending quiet time with her precious cat “Katy”.
Mary Jane is survived by many dear friends; Ellen and Walter Noecker and family of Liberty, June Repko of Liberty, Helen Clark of Florida, Alice Kinne of Tennessee, Rebecca Haray of Pennsylvania, Shelley James of High Falls, New York, Bill and Bob Krug of Liberty, Genevieve McArthur of Liberty and many other friends.
A special thank you to Cynthia Gilmour, FNP, of Sullivan Internal Medicine Group, Dr. Abdul Shahzad of Catskill Regional Medical Center, Hospice; especially Padma Dyvine, and the staff of Unit 4 of the Sull. Co. Adult Care Center for all their loving care.
At Mary Jane’s request there will be no services and burial will be private.

Marie E. Haff
Retired Clerk, 84
Marie E. Haff of Ferndale, NY, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 in the same house in which she was born, with her family at her side. She was 84.
The daughter of the late Russell and Emily Wood Phillips, she was born June 10, 1924 in the Town of Bethel, NY.
Marie was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Monticello, NY, where she had served as the church Treasurer, corresponding Secretary, President of St. Elizabeth Guild, and member of the choir; a member of the 700 Club; a 4-H leader, and a former member of the Happy Footers Square Dance Club and the Sullivan County Cooperative Extension. She graduated from the Liberty High School, Class of 1943 and she had worked in the Sullivan County Treasurer’s Office for seventeen years, retiring in 1983.
Marie loved her family, she was very caring; a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She liked to do various kinds of crafts and sewing, making clothes for her children or their dolls. She was a good cook and everyone liked her pies, cakes and cookies. Her love for Boston Terriers would be reflected in its being the only breed of dog she would have for a pet.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Ernest G. Haff, at home, whom she married 64 years ago on Feb. 6, 1944 in Liberty, NY; one son, Thomas G. Haff and his wife Susan of Ferndale, NY; one daughter, Catherine A. Gloor and her husband William of Ferndale, NY; her grandchildren, Christy Haff of Neversink, NY, Michael Haff of Callicoon Center, NY, Ryan Haff of Ferndale, NY, Melissa Semones of Alpharetta, GA, and Michelle Gloor of Ferndale, NY; and one great-granddaughter, Brianna Torrens.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (today), November 18, 2008 from 2 to 4: 30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 19 at 10 a.m. in the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 13 St. John Street, Monticello, NY. Msgr. Ninon N. Hutchinson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty, NY.

Leona Natalie Buddenhagen of Hortonville, NY, a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Sullivan Adult Care Center in Liberty, NY. She was 98.
Daughter of the late George and Margaret Link Reichmann, she was born August 7, 1910 in the Town of Fremont, NY. She was the widow of Anthony C. Buddenhagen, whom she married on October 8, 1933. She was also predeceased by her great-grandson, Gabriel Rubino.
Leona was a church organist at the Hortonville Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. She was an Elder of the Hortonville Presbyterian Church and was past President of the Presbyterian Women’s Group.
Survivors include her son, David Buddenhagen and his wife Shirley Buddenhagen; their daughter, Mrs. Cathy Wilcox and her husband, Dr. Brian Wilcox; great-grandchildren, Neisha and Robbie Wilcox, and their daughter, Mrs. Cindy Menges and her husband, Keith Menges, and great-granddaughter, Kendall Menges; daughter, Donna Buddenhagen Roeder and her husband, Harold Roeder Jr., their son, Hal Roeder III and his wife, Mary Roeder, and great-granddaughters, Dana and Mackenzie Roeder and Megan Roeder Wessman and her husband, Chris Wessman, their daughter, Katrina Roeder Rubino and her husband, Todd Rubino; great-granddaughters, Lauren and Kendra Rubino, and their son, Brian Roeder and his wife, Sherryl Roeder, and great-grandsons, Todd and Travis Roeder, and great-granddaughter, Heather Roeder. Leona has many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, at 11 a.m. in the Hortonville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Nancy Asbury officiating. Burial will be in Hortonville Cemetery, Hortonville, NY.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks for the wonderful care given to Leona at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center.
