Peggy Mauch
Formerly of Hankins, 71

Our family mourns the passing of our beloved Peggy Mauch (nee Gottschalk), of Iowa City, formerly of Bettendorf, Kansas City and Hankins, NY. Peggy died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 3, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. She was 71.
Peggy was born in Hankins, NY and received her BA in education from Albany State and a Masters in Education from University of New Orleans. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret (Huff) Gottschalk of Hankins, NY. She was a dedicated and loving wife of 47 years to Bernie Mauch; adoring mother of Michele (Rod) Bowman of Iowa City, IA, Bill (Angie) Mauch of Quad Cities, IA, Rosi (Josh) Rosenberg of Denver, CO; amazing grandmother of Kathleen and Jessica Bowman, Maddie and Zoe Mauch and Riley and Elle Rosenberg; beloved sister of Jim (Linda) Gottschalk of Atlanta and aunt and sister-in-law to many.
We will remember her for how much she loved her family, for her wonderful laugh, for her loyalty to her many friends and for her Faith. Always kind and concerned for others, she enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Sincere thanks to Father Ed Fitzpatrick of the Newman Center, to her medical team at the University of Iowa Hospital and to her many friends who provided such loving support.
The Family will greet friends on November 7, 2013 beginning at 4 p.m. at The Newman Catholic Student Center, 104 E. Jefferson Street, Iowa City, followed by a Mass of Celebration at 5:15 p.m., and a reception in the family home.
Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for Cancer Research, the Newman Center or to P.E.O. for the Peggy Mauch Scholarship Fund.

Robert F. Rosch
Formerly of Liberty, 74

Robert F. (Bob) Rosch, of Liberty, New York, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was 74.
Bob resided most of his life in Liberty, New York, and also recently in Fort Myers, Florida. He had a successful business, Rosch & Weston Contractors, Inc. in Liberty where he was an excavator, house mover, rigger, truckman and real estate owner. An avid reader, Bob enjoyed horses, rollerblading, operating heavy machinery and watching football and hockey.
Devoted father of Robin Hierl and husband Rob. Cherished grandfather of Vanessa and Victoria Hierl. Bob is also survived by his lifelong friend and business partner, Bill Weston.
Services are being held privately by his family.

Peter Merando
Retired Detective, 91

Peter Merando, a resident of Livingston Manor, NY, for the last 22 years; his life journey ended at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. He was 91.
The son of the late Peter and Addolarata Leonzi Merando, he was born June 29, 1922 in Nesquehoning, PA. He spent his early childhood in Nesquehoning and completely grew up in the Washington Heights area of New York City.
Peter proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II in England, France and Germany. Later he became a Police Officer and worked for the Nassau County Police Department; he retired as a Detective after 26 years of service. He was a member of the NCPD Detectives Association; a member of the Retired Police Association of the State of NY; a member of the NCPD Police Benevolent Association; and a member of the Lester White American Legion Post # 566 Livingston Manor, NY.
Survivors include two children from a previous marriage; his loving wife, Mary Forrest Merando; two step children, Mary Ann Forrest Woodward and her husband John of Long Beach, CA; and Robert Gladstone Forrest and his wife Kristin Guglielmo of Stafford Springs, CT; one sister, Regina Pawson of Indian River, MI; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His longtime companion, Loki, predeceased him.
Visitation will be Friday (today), November 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 9 AM in the funeral home. Father Joseph Juracek, OFM, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bovina Center Cemetery in Delaware County, NY.
Memorial contributions in Peter’s name may be made to the Lester White American Legion Post # 566, PO Box 555, Livingston Manor, NY 12758 or to the Livingston Manor Ambulance Squad, PO Box 1, Livingston Manor, NY 12758.
