Beulah Helms
Homemaker, 93

Beulah Helms, a homemaker and lifetime area resident, died September 12, 2008 at Skilled Nursing Unit at the Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 93.
The daughter of the late James and Jessie Chrisey Nutt, she was born February 22, 1915 in East Branch, NY. She was the widow of Floyd Helms, who died in 1975.
Mrs. Helms was a former member of Livingston Manor Senior Citizens; member and past President of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6081, Ladies Auxiliary; member of Clarence Hoyt Post #9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, in Jeffersonville. Burial was in Beaverkill Cemetery, Beaverkill, NY. Pastor Alan Wachter officiated.

Florence Gordon
Ret. legal secretary, 82

Florence Olive Gordon, known to her family and friends as “Flossie,” a retired legal secretary, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at her home in Rock Hill at the age of 82.
The daughter of the late Clarence Gordon and Florabel Case Gordon, she was born on February 6, 1926 in Rock Hill.
After graduating from Monticello High School, Ms. Gordon went to work for the Law Offices of Weiss & Costa in Monticello, which eventually became known as the Law Offices of Ingber & Lagrenne, and continued to work there before retiring after 60 years of service. She was a member of the Sullivan County Legal Secretaries Association and attended the United Methodist Church of Rock Hill. A world traveler, she also loved to entertain and play golf.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and a large circle of close friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Hazel Piper, Mildred Elliott and Pearl Blenis; and two brothers, Andrew Gordon and Walter Gordon.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, September 19 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Bural will follow at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Lillian Shabus, 93

Lillian Shabus, a longtime Woodridge resident, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at her home in Woodridge with her family by her side. She was 93.
Lillian was born in Mountaindale, NY on August 1, 1915, the daughter of Jacob and Celia Sheinberg Meyerson.
She was a longtime volunteer at Catskill Regional Hospital, in Harris; a life member of Hadassah, ORT, Jewish Women International and Deborrah, a member of the Sisterhood of the Woodridge Synagogue and the Kiwanis Club.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Marvin Shabus, of New York, NY and Dennis Gold of Naples, Fla.; her two sisters, Ruth Magid of Atlanta, Ga., and Charlotte Schwartz of Delray Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Max Shabus; her sisters, Doris Kaminsky and Sara Rosen, and her brothers-in-law, George Kaminsky and Marvin Magid.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 15, in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Rabbi Irving Goodman officiated. Burial was in the Workman Circle #281 Cemetery, Marsh Rd., Glen Wild, NY.
