Nora May Kinlen of Newburgh died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 71.
She was born April 30, 1936 in New York City and was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Granger Fredericks.
Nora was a resident of the Bronx for 38 years, moving to this area a year ago. She was a communicant of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and had been a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post #1456.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed her trips with her husband to Atlantic City.
Nora is survived by her husband, John F. Kinlen Sr., who she married January 10, 1954. Mr. Kinlen survives at home. Also surviving are one daughter, Doris Murray and Ron Abbagliato, of Wallkill; four sons: John F. Kinlen, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Pawling, Robert W. Kinlen and his wife, Margaret of Shohola, Pa., Joseph M. Kinlen and his wife, Annemarie of Bloomingburg, and William G. Kinlen and his wife, Susan of Thornwood; her son-in-law, James Murray of Bloomingburg; 15 grandchildren: Lisa, Jessica, Bobby, Jason, Jennifer, Christopher, Kerry, Nick, Matt, Michelle, Dana, Rebecca, Kelli, Michael and Stacie; eight great-grandchildren: Hunter, Kuyler, Griffin, Samantha, Elijah, Jordan, Isiah and Trenady; two sisters, Anna Schwartz of Vermont and Catherine Becker of Virginia; a brother-in-law, Bernard Kinlen and his wife, Maureen; a sister-in-law, Mary Bartlett and her husband, Hal; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, September 8 at St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction, followed by burial in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill.

Helen Kennedy of Newburgh, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at home after a long illness. She was 92.
A Newburgh resident since the early 1980s, she previously lived in Deer Park and also in Bohemia.
While on Long Island she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several construction firms where she met her husband.
Helen married Arthur B. Kennedy on February 5, 1951 in Malverne. Mr. Kennedy died on January 7, 1979.
In addition, she was a Committee Woman for the 99th District in Suffolk County LI from 1975 - 1979. She was president of the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club, and a member of the East End Republican Club, both on Long Island.
She was a past member of Peace Lutheran Church in Bohemia and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Newburgh.
Born September 2, 1914 in Brooklyn, she was the oldest of five children of the late Julius and Natalia (Hein) Hoffart.
She is survived by her daughter: Donna Gandolfini; her son-in-law Angelo, and her granddaughter Camille of Newburgh with whom she made her home; and her step-granddaughter Danielle and husband Faizool Ali of Bloomingburg. She is also survived by her daughter Natalie Martin and family of Mechanicsville, Va.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hoffart of Washington State; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a step daughter: Patricia Dameron; two step sons: John R. and William T. Kennedy; two sisters: Caroline Neuberger and Elizabeth Voth; and two brothers: Edward and William Hoffart.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Christ Lutheran Church, South St. and Fullerton, Newburgh. The Rev. Ernst A. Mossl officiated.
Burial will be made in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale.

Eunice McComb of Port Jervis, died Thursday, September 6, 2007, at St. Joseph's Place. She was 86.
She was born July 20, 1921 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Charles and the late Lillian Abrams. She was married to the late Leonard McComb; who predeceased her on July 18, 1992.
Survivors include three sons, Larry McComb of Port Jervis, Gary McComb of Milford, Pa., and Wayne McComb of Montague; four daughters, Diane Vandermark, Old Towne, Fla., Dolores McComb of Greenville, Susan McComb of Swan Lake, and Janet McComb of Port Jervis; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral service will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be at Manning Cemetery, Greenville Township.

Richard R. Burke Sr. of Bloomingburg, a five-year area resident and former long-time resident of New City, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Summit Park Hospital in Pomona. He was 77.
The son of the late Thomas F. and Helen Regan Burke, he was born in Jackson Heights, Queens on June 5, 1930.
He was a treasurer for Broadway plays in the theatrical district in Manhattan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his sons: Richard R. Burke, Jr., of Spring Valley, Christopher P. Burke, and Sean T. Burke of Connecticut; granddaughter Heather Burke and her fiance Thomas Burakowski; grandson Ryan Burke; great-grandson Bradley Burakowski, and three brothers. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary T. Burke.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation was made at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

Walter Lowerre of Middetown, a lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at ORMC, Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 94.
The son of the late Charles and Bertha Swarthout Lowerre he was born on May 3, 1913 in Middletown.
He was a past grand officer of the Green-Ulster Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Hoffman Masonic Lodge. Walter was the last surviving charter member of the Circleville Fire Department, past captain of the Circleville Fire Police, and a member of both the Orange County Volunteer Fire Association and the Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 19.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doris, at home; one son, Richard and his wife Carrie; two daughters, Patricia Lambach of Brooksville, FL, and Barbara Piper of Wurtsboro; and seven granchildren, Lori, Nancy, Ann, Vivian, June, Patrick and Andrew and eight great-grandchildren.
Walter was predeceased by his first wife, Olive Cordier; two sisters, Edith Aschoff and Alberta Bomgardner; one brother, Winiford, and one great-grandchild, Jacob.
A funeral service was held Thursday, September 6, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, followed by services by The Order of the Eastern Star and the Hoffman Masonic Lodge.
Garett Vandershaff and the Circleville Fire Department conducted a firematic service of remembrance at the funeral home.

Lewis B. Smith of Old Liberty Road, Monticello, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on September 8, 2007 following a short illness. He was 86.
He retired from the New York Telephone Company in Monticello after 32 years of service and thoroughly enjoyed his 30 years of "taking it easy" since then.
Mr. Smith was a direct descendent of one of the pioneer families of Sullivan County. His great great grandfather was Nehemiah Smith, Jr. who settled near Monticello in 1803. Born in Monticello December 18, 1920 he was the son of Charles and Addie Wright Smith. He was a WW II veteran serving in the US Army Signal Corps from 1942-1945 with time in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He was a charter member and past president of the Hagan Hunting Club of Monticello, member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Kingston chapter, a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and Monticello Elks Lodge #1544. Dad, "Pa-Pa," was always a farmer at heart probably best known for his summer vegetable stand and sweet corn sold locally for 50 years.
He was married for 59 years to Shirley Wright Smith at home.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn L. Smith and his wife, Patricia of Monticello, Gary L. Smith and his wife Bonnie of Rock Hill; three daughters, Kathy Beseth and her husband, Steve of White Sulphur Springs, Linda Freaney and her husband, Michael of Swan Lake, and Lauren Frunzi and husband, Gary of South Fallsburg; as well as eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Tully, Adam Smith, Shawn Smith, Michael Beseth, Kimberly White, Patrick and Kellie Freaney, Peter, Kristin, Gary and Matthew Frunzi; and nine great-grandchildren; sisters Emily Bernhey of Landing, N.J. and Edith Porter of Hurleyville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Rev. Arthur Judson Smith, Roy Smith, Alton Smith, and sister Ethel Misner.
Visitation will be at the Monticello United Methodist Church Tuesday September 11 from 3 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, September 12 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Thomason officiating.
Burial will be in the Hurleyville Cemetery.
During visitation and the funeral, parking is available in the church parking lot off Lakewood Avenue behind the church.

Martin R. Polignone Sr. of Washingtonville, a 20-year area resident, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall. He was 52.
The son of the late Stephen Polignone and Edna Capozzi Polignone, he was born on January 6, 1955 in Jersey City, N.J.
He retired after 21 years as a police officer for the NYPD’s 50th Precinct in the Bronx. He was a part-time police officer for the Village of Montgomery, and a member of the Orange County Shields.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Lopez of Washingtonville; two sons, Martin R. Polignone Jr. and Joseph S. Polignone of Monroe, and their mother, Ursula Polignone of Monroe; two sisters and one brother-in-law Yvonne E. Butterfield of New Windsor and Leslie E. Moore and her husband Andrew of Wurtsboro; a granddaughter, Kyla “Pretty Girl” Polignone; and nieces & nephews.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, September 5 at St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Ave., Washingtonville, with the Rev. John J. Keaveney officiating.
Interment was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Washingtonville.

Richard M. Bonney of Wurtsboro, a machine operator at Nexxons in Chester, died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 58.
The son of the late Robert and Julie Roach Bonney, he was born on February 3, 1949 in New York.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Langone Bonney, at home and his children, Richard Bonney Jr. and Michael Bonney, both of Pennsylvania and Dawn Bonney at home. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, grandchildren and nieces and nephews, as well as his in-laws.

Natalie Riordan of Bullville, died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at ORMC, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 48.
The daughter of William and the late Estelle Raven, she was born November 18, 1958 in Brooklyn.
Known to her friends and family as “Nat-Nat,” she was a loving and caring friend who took care of everyone. She will be remembered as a very sweet lady who was the World’s Greatest Mom.
Nat is survived by her loving husband, James Cambareri, at home; her daughters, Dara Riordan and her husband, Richard Morgan and Melissa Hogle, all of Bullville, and three sons: William and Darren Riordan of Bullville and Pito Espiritusano and his wife, Alaja of the Bronx. She is also survived by her sister, Heidi Kennedy, her husband, Mike and children, Stephanie and Brandon, all of Monticello; Natalie’s father, William Raven; brother, Nathan Raven and his daughter, Cassie of Pine Bush; brother, Mark Raven of Monticello, and sister, Maureen DeGroat and her children, John DeGroat and Angelina and her son, Joseph DeGroat, all of Monticello, and her beloved grandson, Richard Morgan who she called “Pumpkin Face.”

James A. Patterson of New Paltz, a truck driver, formerly of Marlboro and lifelong area resident, died September 7, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. He was 45.
The son of Jerry D. Patterson Sr. and the late Vicenzia "Vivian" Fratto, he was born August 20, 1962 in Newburgh.
James was an avid hunter, motorcycle enthusiast and he worked for Metro North for 13 years.
A family statement reads, "James was a fun-loving guy who was liked by all who knew him. He was especially loved by his wife and children. He was a loving son and brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him."

William I. Crawford of Middletown, a lifetime area resident, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Valley View Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Goshen. He was 84 years old.
The son of the late Warren and Kathryn Sliter Crawford, he was born October 13, 1922 in Middletown.
William attended Middletown Schools and was a member of the first Middletown High School class to graduate from Twin Towers in 1941. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Helen Schlegel in 1956 in Garfield, N.J. William later worked for Sears in Middletown until his retirement in 1979.
William is survived by his beloved wife, Helen at home; his seven children, William E. of Middletown, John H. and his wife, Cathy, of Phillipsport, Robert W. of Middletown, James J. and his wife, Debbie, of Wurtsboro, Jerry A. and his wife, June, of Attleboro, Mass., Barbara A. Crawford of Cocoa, Fla., and Susan Rowley and her husband, Patrick, of Middletown. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren.
William was predeceased by his two daughters, Patricia and Christine; his granddaughter, Catharine; and his sister, Doris.
There will be no services.
Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Burial of cremains will take place in the family plot in Unionville Cemetery.

Ann Elizabeth Bates, a homemaker and lifetime resident of Livingston Manor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at home with her loving family by her side. She was 75.
The daughter of Irene and Charles Miller Banks, she was born on October 6, 1931 in Unidilla. Ann was a Sunday school teacher in the Pelm Methodist Church and a clerk at the Manor Liquor Store.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 57 years, Robert T. Bates, whom she married on July 22, 1950 in Livingston Manor, at home; one daughter, Linda Utter and her husband, Robert of Turnwood; two sons, Robert "Bobby" Bates, Jr. of Livingston Manor and Randy Bates and his wife, Teri of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, Beth Baj of Arizona, Terri-Ann Utter of Florida and Alisha Davis of Livingston Manor; one great-granddaughter, Holi Baj; and her extended family, Sue Lavelle, Diane Diescher, Gary Tompkins and Julie Caruso.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Charles, Jr., Richard "Sam", Leslie and Frederick Banks.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 11 a.m. at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor with cremation to follow.

Barbara D’Amico

Barbara Louise D'Amico, a 45-year resident of Livingston Manor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at home. She was 71.
The daughter of Walter and Jane Bolize Christian, she was born on March 24, 1936 in Muskegon, Mich.
After graduating from high school Barbara attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she received her LPN degree. Upon employment at a hospital, she met Dr. Paul M. D'Amico whom she married on June 30, 1961 and in 1962 Dr. and Mrs. D'Amico moved to Livingston Manor to settle down and raise a family. Barbara enjoyed traveling, being a homemaker and was a very proud grandmother, her home and heart were always open to everyone. She was very active in the Catholic Church and instrumental in establishing the Regional Catholic School in Liberty.
Barbara leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years, Dr. Paul M. D'Amico at home; her beloved mother, Jane Beck of Michigan; three sons, John F. D'Amico and his wife, Katherine of Maine, Paul M. D'Amico and his wife, Christine of Connecticut, Mark A. D'Amico and his wife, Carmen of Oneonta; two daughters, Lisa Michalowsky and her husband, Esteban of Lew Beach, Sara Jakob and her husband, Claus of Germany; two brothers; seven sisters; twelve grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Traditional Catholic Mass was held on Monday, September 10 at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor.

Warren “Bub” Earle of Apex, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. He was 63.
Bub was a retired maintenance technician for the City of Raleigh Housing Authority. He was formerly from White Sulphur Springs.
Bub was born in Monticello in December 1943 to Maude Hendrickson Earle and Warren Willis Earle Sr. He was the step-son of Jack Buchal of Liberty, all of whom pre-deceased him.
Bub is survived by his wife, Peggy, at home; two daughters, Tammi Kinney and her husband, Jeff of Aurora, Iowa and Lisa Bradford and husband, John of Ocala, Fla.; three sons, Dale Malone and his wife, Janice of Hurleyville, Robert Malone and his companion, David Bachmann of Arlington Heights, Tenn. and John Earle of Apex, N.C.; two sisters, Louise Snyder of Kasilof, Ark. and Penni Buchal of Fosterdale; and one brother, Charles Buchal of Lake George; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was handled by the Crematory Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, N.C.
In accordance with Bub’s wishes a memorial service/celebration of his life will be held in the spring in New York.
Vito Gulotta
U.S. Army Veteran, 78
Vito Gulotta of Middletown, a longtime area resident, died Friday, September 7, 2007 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. He was 78 years old.
The son of the late Michael and Jenny Villani Gulotta, he was born September 22, 1928 in Brooklyn.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Vito proudly served his country during the Korean War. Vito was a past member of the Middletown Elks Lodge #1097, and the American Legion Post 151. He was also a member of the Town of Wallkill Seniors Club, as well as the Happy Seniors Club.
A family statement reads, “Vito was an extremely generous man who always went above and beyond for everyone he knew. He always enjoyed getting together with family and neighbors for many celebrations. He will be forever remembered and missed by all who loved him.”
Vito is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mamie, at home; his daughters, Jenny Hansen and her husband, Steven, and Nancy Rutkowski and her husband, Kevin, both of Middletown; his two grandchildren, Daniel Hansen and his wife, Denise, of Bloomingburg, and Erica Hansen of Middletown; his great-grandchildren, Brittany and Deanna; and his beloved cat, Queenie; his brother-in-law, Nick Branchina and his wife, Barbara; nephew Nick and his fiancée, Kim; niece Carly and her husband, John; his great-niece and great nephew Molly Elizabeth and John Nicholas, all of Maine; and several cousins.
Vito was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Alan Rutkowski.
A funeral service of remembrance will take place on Tuesday, September 11 at 10 a.m. at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown with Pastor Jean Risely officiating.
Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Mausoleum in Middlehope.
