Roger W. Baum, 73, of Tampa, Florida, was gathered into God’s hands and his waiting mother’s arms September 1, 2007. He was born in Jeffersonville, on August 30, 1934.
He is survived by his loving sister, Arlene Stephenson; two nieces, Cheryl (Howard) Beckert, Grace (Robert) Wakefield; a nephew, Robert (Judy) Stephenson; 3 great nieces, Laura Beckert, Alicia (Robert) Felton, Michelle (Eddy) Sanchez; and one great-great niece, Kelsey Felton. Roger was a successful International Ocean Freight Forwarder in Tampa for 50 years.
The family received friends at the Boza & Roel Funeral Home located at 4730 N. Armenia Avenue, Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, September 5. Funeral services were held at the funeral home at that time.

Brenda Johnson
Monticello resident, 59
Brenda Joyce Johnson, a longtime resident of Brooklyn and Monticello, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn. She was 59.
The daughter of the late Robert Kendrick Jr. and the late Dorothy Johnson, she was born May 4, 1948 in Miami, Fla.
She is survived by four children: Anthony Darrell Johnson of Liberty, Michael McDaniels of Florida, Cynthia McDaniels of Monticello, John Brickhouse Jr. of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Taneka McDaniels, Lance Tate Jr., Lakaya Tate, Brianna McDaniels, Malik McDaniels, Tahjae Malik McDaniels; four brothers and sisters: Robert Kendrick lll of Atlanta, Cynthia Artiran of Rockledge, Evelyn Kendrick of Switzerland, Stephanie Butler of Miami; several nieces and nephews and a host of children that she helped to raise.
Viewing Services were held Tuesday September 4 with the Funeral Procession immediately following at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Ferndale, presiding Reverend Willie Smith.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.
Betty Carleo
Devoted Wife, 83
Betty Louise Carleo of Yulan, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2007 in Orlando, Fla. She was 83 years old.
The daughter of the late Carl and Bessie Corber, she was born January 23, 1924 in Atchison, Kansas.
Betty Lou was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was helpful and kind. Betty Lou was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She welcomed family and friends with hugs and kisses as they entered her home. She listened to their stories, offered advice, cooked amazing meals and made everyone feel important.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Carleo and wife Denise of Queens Village; Scott and wife, Laurie of Flushing; four daughters: Kathryn of Las Vegas, Nev., Laura and husband, Vincent of San Diego, Calif., Patricia and husband, Craig of Winter Springs, Fla., and Jennifer and husband Shawn of Pond Eddy; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Gladys Witte and Alice J. Grim also survive her.
In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, who passed on July 31, 2007, Sebastian F. "Buster" Carleo; one brother, Jack; two sisters, Lotus and Mary Faith; two daughters, Barbara Marie and Lisa Marie; a son-in-law, William; and a grandson, Jason.
Memorial services for Betty and her late husband, Sebastian, will take place on Saturday, September 8, at Malverne Bible Church located in Malverne and on Monday, September 10, at St. Anthony's of Padua Church located in Yulan. All are welcome to attend.
The National Cremation Society performed cremation. Burial will take place at St. Anthony's of Padua Cemetery located in Eldred, at the convenience of the family.
Eleanor Peters
South Fallsburg nurse, 87
Eleanor White Peters expired August 31st at Little Brook Nursing Home in Califon, NJ. She was 87.
Born in Highland Park, Michigan, her parents were Alfred White and Jane Evans White.
Eleanor grew up in Pequannock, N..J, and graduated from Butler High School in 1932. She took nurses training at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, and was awarded her diploma in 1941. She received her BA from Jersey City State College and MS Degree from the State University of New York in 1983.
Her long career encompassed most disciplines of nursing: practitioner’s office, clinical, industrial, and teaching at both high school and college levels. The last fourteen years of her fulfilling career were spent with the State of New York as a community mental health nurse working with mentally retarded adults in South Fallsburg. She retired in 1995.
She resided most of her adult life in Saddle River, NJ, and was active in the Historical Society and Zion Lutheran Church. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and also Sigma Theta Tau. She is listed in Who’s Who in American Women. Eleanor was a world traveler who had visited every continent and an avid antique collector and lover of nature and animals.
Eleanor (husband William J. Peters, died 1964) had two children: Susannah J. Peters, residing in Annandale, NJ; and William J. Peters, who predeceased her in 1979. She is survived by nieces: Deborah White Barry, Patricia White Ganzemueller, Alice White, Diana White, and nephew John White.

Corrections Superintendent, 67
Andrew T. Peters of Clermont, Fla., a retired Superintendent for the New York State Corrections System and a former resident of Parksville, died on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Hospice of Lake and Sumter in Tavares, Florida. He was 67.
The son of the late Frederick and Helen Rasch Peters, he was born October 26, 1939 in Jamaica, Queens.
Andy served in the United States Marine Corps, he retired after having worked at seventeen different facilities within thirty-four years for the New York State Department of Corrections, including Sullivan and Jefferson counties. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clermont, Fla., and he is a former member of the Watertown and South Lake Rotary Clubs.
Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Edith Muhlig Peters, at home; one son, Brian Peters and his wife, Marlyn of White Sulphur Springs; one daughter, Sandra Porta and her husband David, of Ocoee, Fla.; three sisters, Loraine Kuebler of Callicoon Center; Barbara Festa of California; and Carol Luciano and her husband, Michael, of Ronkonkoma; three brothers, Fred Peters and his wife, Lillian, of Edison; Walter Peters and his wife, Betty, of Jeffersonville; and Raymond Peters and his wife, Maria, of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Johnathan Peters and Emily Porta; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty.
The Rev. Richard Guice will officiate. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.

Ambulance dispatcher, 47
Colleen B. Culligan of Monticello, an ambulance dispatcher for MobileMedic in Hurleyville, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Orange Region Medical Center - Horton Campus in Middletown after a short battle with cancer. She was 47.
The daughter of Norman L. Culligan and Evelyn S. Culligan, she was born January 23, 1960 in Monticello.
She is survived by her four children of whom she was very proud: Holli, Samantha and Paige Schoonmaker, all of Monticello, and Jonathan Churley of White Lake; her fiance, Dan Churley of White Lake; her parents, Evelyn and Norman Culligan of Monticello; a brother, William D. Culligan and his wife, Janie, of Monticello; a sister, Pattilyn Nygard and her husband, Randy, of Kauneonga Lake; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, especially those from MobileMedic.
She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Robert Schoonmaker, Sr.; a son, Robbie Schoonmaker; and a brother, Robert A. Culligan.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 6 at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Father Robert Ginel officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Delia Zukas
Long-time area resident, 89
Delia Zukas of Barryville, a housewife and a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007 at home. She was 89.
The daughter of the late John and Delia Harold Friest, she was born June 21, 1918 in the Bronx. She was married 30 years to the late Algie Zukas, Sr., who passed away in 1986.
She was member of St. Anthony R.C. Church of Padua, Yulan.
A family statement reads: "Delia was a devoted family member and a friend to all. She will greatly be missed by all that knew her."
She is survived by her brother, Walter Friest of Cherry Valley, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Algie Zukas, Jr., and her 11 brothers and sisters.
Friends were invited to call on Wednesday, September 5, at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, September 6, at St. Anthony R.C. Church of Padua, Yulan, with the Rev. Anthony Moore OFM officiating. Cremation followed at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, Pa. Burial of the cremains will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Eldred, at the convenience of the family.

Anna Boychuk
Native of Ukraine, 81
Anna Boychuk of Hurleyville, formerly of New York City, passed away on August 30, 2007 peacefully at home. She was 81.
She was born in the Ukraine on August 29, 1926.
A parishioner of St. George’s Ukrainian Church in New York City, she most recently attended Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kerhonkson. She was a widow of Myron “Mike” Boychuck.
Survivors include two daughters, Maria Cassiack and husband, Adam, and Oksana Boychuk, both of Hurleyville; three grandchildren: Theresa Cassiack of Schenectady, Katherine Cassiack of Smallwood, and Christopher Cassiack of Liberty.
Visitation was held on September 2, at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne. Panakhyda began Sunday, September 2.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, September 3, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson. Interment followed at the Hurleyville Cemetery.

Bruno Cassol
Former Marine, 92
Bruno Cassol, a resident of Narrowsburg since 1953, died Monday, August 27, 2007 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. He was 92.
The son of the late Louis and Maria Cassol, he was born in McKeesport, Pa., on February 13, 1915. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Judy, in 2005.
He was a proud Marine veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre the entire length of the war in places like Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and other major battle sites.
He received many medals and commendations and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.
A retired mechanic with Sullivan Highway Products in Fosterdale, he also owned his own repair shop for many years. He was a member of The Marine Corps League.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing his entire life and made numerous trips to Newfoundland, moose hunting. On his last trip, Bruno was 81 years old.
A family statement reads, “His two greatest loves in life were his family and the Marine Corps. He was very proud of his service as a Marine and to his country. He was a kind and generous man to all. We love him very much and will miss him greatly. He will always live in our hearts.”
He is survived by his son, Robert Cassol of Floyd, Va.; his two daughters, Carol Thomas and her husband, Pete, of Fort Valley, Va. and Janice O'Neill and her husband, Michael, of Lititz, Pa.; two brothers, Clyde of Carteret, N.J. and Gwedo of Clearwater, Fla.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at the Lake Region Crematory Lake Ariel, Pa.

Rose M. Johnston, of Wurtsboro, a 25-year resident and a retired research assistant for Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, N.Y.C., died September 1, 2007 in Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 82.
The daughter of Carmine and Rosina Malanga Gonnella, she was born August 3, 1925 in Manhattan.
She was the widow of Mancel Johnston.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Johnston and wife Laura of the Bronx; two sisters, Geraldine Kleinschmidt and husband Bernard of Yorktown Heights, Florence G. Paterson of Nutley, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were able to call at Loucks Funeral Home Inc., 79 N. Main St., Ellenville on Tuesday, September 4.

Home Health Aide, 81
Margaret Holmes, of Monticello, passed into Eternal Life on Tuesday September 4, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 61.
A longtime resident of the area, she was born in New York City on February 13, 1946 to Margaret and the late Louis Mariotti.
She had been employed as a home health aide for the Sullivan County Department of Public Health.
She is survived by her mother Margaret Mariotti of Stone Ridge, two sons; Joseph Bonilla of Pine Bush and Robert Bonilla of Monticello, two daughters; Stephanie Bonilla and husband Stewart Graham of Monticello, and Rena Bonilla of White Lake, one brother; John Mariotti of Accord, one sister; Frances Dexter of Wisconsin, and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter; Veronica Holmes.
There will be no visitation. Private services and cremation will be at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory Newburgh.

Ethel M. Danzer of Swan Lake, a 57-year resident of the area, passed away on August 31 ,2007 at home. She was 60.
She was born in Philadelphia on Sept. 14, 1946 to the late Carl and Katherine Moore Harty. She had worked as an RN at Woodbourne Correctional Facility .
She is survived by one son, Zach Danzer of Louisburg, N.C.; one brother, Gene Kehrley of Calhoun Falls, S.C.; two sisters, Carol Behrens of Woodbourne and Harriet Jones of Corpus Christi, Tx; one grandson, Justin Zachiriah-Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were able to call at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc. 275 South Main Street, Liberty on Thursday, September 6. Funeral services were conducted that evening at the funeral home.

Sullivan ARC participant, 45
John Alden Seabury, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 45.
The son of Barbara E. Davis and Brian A. Seabury, he was born on July 14, 1962 in Middletown.
He was a participant of Sullivan County ARC since February of 1992. His biggest passion was boats of any kind, playing miniature golf, going bowling and stopping at Dunkin Donuts for a cup of coffee.
John is survived by his mother, Barbara E. Davis Seabury of Arizona; his father Brian A. Seabury and his wife, Vickie also of Arizona; his maternal grandmother, Helen Davis of Wyoming; one brother, Brian A. Seabury and his wife Tracy of Arizona; three sisters, Valerie Tobin of Wisconsin; Lisa Austin of Kansas; Caireen DeVaux and her husband Robert of Iowa; two uncles, George C. Davis II of Arizona, who was very special to John; Joel Davis and his wife, Carol of Pennsylvania; two special friends, Claude and Doris, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Grover Davis; and his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Katherine Seabury.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 4 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, State Route 52, Woodbourne. Funeral Servicess were held at that time at the funeral home.
