Alberta Schmauss
Ret. Director of Nurses, 89

Alberta Schmauss of Hampton, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. She was 89.
She was born in Kenoza Lake on January 31, 1919 to the late Henry and Rowena Klaus.
Alberta graduated from Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. She worked at Callicoon Hospital and also in home health care with Litson Home Health in Monticello. She retired as Director of Nurses of the Sullivan County Infirmary, Liberty. She gave much of her life giving compassion and love to every patient she cared for.
Alberta spent many summers helping run the family business, Maple Grove Farm Boarding House.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville and when she moved to Hampton, Va. to live with her daughter, she joined the North Hampton Presbyterian Church.
Alberta is survived by two daughters, Roberta Rittenhauser (Bill) of Bellfountain, Ohio, and Karen Nicoletti (Michael) of Hampton, Va.; two grandsons, Scott and Todd Rittenhauser; three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Mallory and Trey Rittenhauser.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Schmauss; her granddaughter, Michelle Nicoletti; and her sister, Dorothy Stagl.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Genevieve M. Case
Ret. Verizon Instructor, 88

Genevieve M. Case, “Bee,” a retired instructor for Verizon where she worked for 45 years, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at her home in Delmar. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Stephen J. Murran Sr. and Jennie Felter Murran, she was born September 13, 1919 in Monticello.
Bee was a member of the St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Delmar and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was the widow of Blake M. Case, who predeceased her on August 31, 1978.
She is survived by a sister, Harriet Pirich of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Kathryn Case, Julia Voelkers and Helen “Honey” Deutsch; and three brothers, Stephen Murran Jr., John Murran and Charles Murran.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, in Monticello. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Burial will follow at the St. Peter’s Cemetery, in Monticello.
