Thomas D. Martin
Land Surveyor, 82

Thomas D. Martin of Liberty, NY, a professional land surveyor and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Westchester County Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. He was 82.
The son of the late Edmund and Anna Flannigan Martin, he was born November 1, 1926 in Liberty.
Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Liberty Fire Dept. Company #2, the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545, the Tuesday night Businessmen’s Bowling League, and the Wednesday night golf league at Swan Lake Golf Course. He was an avid football and baseball fan.
In a family statement it was said, “His love for his country, his hometown, and the great outdoors was surpassed only by his love and devotion to his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.”
He worked for over 20 years for the Board of Water Supply for the City of New York on the construction of the Neversink Dam and West Delaware Tunnel. From 1973 until the present time he owned a private practice as a land surveyor.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Marie, of Liberty; two daughters, Denise M. Birmingham of Liberty, and Kim Sutton and her husband, Chris, of Woodbourne, NY; one son, Daniel Martin and his wife, Mary, of Atlanta, Ga; one sister, Vivian Hasbrouck of Liberty; one brother, Douglas Martin and his wife, Jane, of Marco Island, Fla.; six grandchildren, Robert T. Birmingham, Bryan Sutton, Stephanie Sutton, Michael Sutton, Sarah Martin, and Tommy Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at St. Peter’s R.C. Church, 264 N. Main St., Liberty with Msgr. William Collins officiating.
