Ruth Mary Holmes
Co-owner of Catskill Brokers Inc., 87

Ruth Mary Holmes, a lifelong resident of South Fallsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 30, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.
The daughter of the late Stanley and Marian W. Stratton, she was born on August 4, 1923 in Middletown, New York. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Ralph R. Holmes, and her brother, Arnold Stratton.
Ruth began work as a legal secretary for the Hillman and Sakofsky Law Office in South Fallsburg. In the early 1950s, together with her husband, Ralph, they owned and operated The Misner Agency, Inc. and later on Catskill Brokers, Inc. in Woodbourne for many years. Ruth was an active lifetime member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of numerous professional and community organizations including the Sullivan County Board of Realtors, Catskill Mountain Business and Professional Women and a founding member of the Woodbourne Action Committee. In 1999, Ruth received the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce Pride of the Town of Fallsburg Award.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Greg) Goldstein, Cynthia (Charles) Johnston, and Debra Briggs; five grandsons, Eric (Alana) Goldstein, Todd Goldstein, Brendan Briggs, Connor Briggs, and James Johnston; three great-granddaughters, Gillian Ruth, Natalie and Claire Goldstein; a sister, Louise (Robert) Clairmont; and nieces and nephews, including special nephews Russell and Roger Clairmont.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 5277 State Route 42, South Fallsburg, NY. Mother Joan LaLiberté will officiate.
Interment will be in Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 815, South Fallsburg, NY 12779 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mary Ann Gorton
Homemaker, 65

Mary Ann Gorton, age 65, of Leslie, Arkansas passed away Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at her home.
She was born in Walton, New York on March 16th, 1945 to Eugene Cuttler and Eva Ann (Jones) Cuttler.
She spent most of her life in Neversink, New York.
Mary attended the Thola Community Church. She was a wonderful homemaker and devoted her life to raising her children. Mary was a generous and giving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was always there when you needed her most.
Mary Ann Gorton is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Inda Sherman.
Survivors include her husband, Clair D. Gorton, of the home; one son, Eugene Gorton and wife Carrie of St. Joe, AR; two daughters, Althea Hoyt and husband Ricky of Oxley, AR and Victoria Henley and husband Paul, also of Oxley, AR; six grandchildren, Rachael Hoyt, Ryan Hoyt and wife Brittany, Violet Gorton, Aidan Gorton, Arrainnia Gorton and Joe Toney; one great-grandson, Jax Booth Hoyt; one sister, Clara Gorton and husband Douglas of Liberty, KY; one niece, Sherry Malave and husband Ralph of Monticello, NY; three nephews, Kurt Gorton and wife Cindy, Todd Gorton and wife Beth, Clay Gorton and wife Eva; a cousin, Rita Edwards and husband Nial and good friend Irene Stoops.

A Memorial Service for Mary Ann Gorton will be held at the Thola Community Church on November 6, 2010 at 11 a.m.

Helene Kokes
Homemaker, 86

Helene Kokes of Callicoon, NY, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Center in Liberty. She was 86.
Helene was born July 11, 1924 in the Czech Republic.
She is survived by several relatives in her native country, and by her friends Pat and Jeffrey Peters.
Services will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
