Edward E. Hoos
Owner of Hoos Bakery, 83

Edward E. Hoos of Livingston Manor passed away on Friday December 25, 2009 at home. He was 83.
Edward was the son of the late Fred and Ellie Witt Hoos, born on September 19, 1926 in Livingston Manor, NY.
He was involved in many different activities throughout his life. He was a past member of the Hoos Truck for 23 years, a member of Livingston Manor Masonic Lodge # 791 for 62 years, and a member of Cradle Rock Ridge Hunting Club. He was the owner of the Hoos Bakery in Livingston Manor for 32 years. He was a present member of the Presbyterian Church in Livingston Manor. Edward was a true outdoorsman; he found enjoyment in fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a man who loved to work with his hands; he would take pleasure in working with all different types of tools, and mastering the art of carpentry and furniture making. He is going to be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Alice Hoos; two sons, Jay and his wife Corinne of Livingston Manor, Carl and his wife Peggy of North Wales, Pa., seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Marie Elly; three brothers, Fred, Otto, Paul Hoos; two sisters, Charlotte Hoos, and Henrietta Rose.
A Masonic service and funeral services were held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor.

Sherrie T. Nichols
Bookkeeper, 58

Sherrie T. Nichols, a lifetime Liberty resident, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009. She was 58.
The daughter of the late Clinton P. Tompkins and Irene Lewis Tompkins, she was born January 14, 1951 in Liberty, NY.
Sherrie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty, and worked as a bookkeeper for Woodstock Aircraft Services in White Lake, NY.
She is survived by her husband, Donald F. Nichols, at home; two sons, Richard Nichols and his wife Marion of Liberty and John Nichols and his wife Fran of Liberty; two brothers, Clinton Tompkins of Ellenville and Dale Tompkins and his wife Jill of Baldwinsville, NY; four sisters, Jacqueline Tompkins of Barneveld, NY, Darlene Brezinsky of Keuka Park, NY, Joy Tompkins of Manlius, NY, and Carla Houshultz and her husband Kenneth of Hancock, NY; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Donald Nichols Jr.
Memorial funeral services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty with the Rev. Jay Wallace officiating.

Fred W. DeFeo Jr.
Ret. Comex Clearing Assoc., 85

Fred W. DeFeo Jr., 85, of Eldred, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty, NY.
The son of the late Fred E. and Pearl E. Owen DeFeo, he was born November 23, 1924 in Clifton, NJ. He was married to Pamela Fischetti DeFeo for 61 years. She survives.
Fred was a retired president of Comex Clearing Association in Manhattan, NY. He had worked in the Twin Towers. Fred was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 106th Infantry. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.
Fred was a member of the Eldred Methodist Church, and the Eldred VFW, the American Legion of Eldred, the Lions Club, and the Highland Seniors.
A family statement reads: “Fred was a loving husband, brother and uncle. He was a fun-loving guy who had a heart of gold. He will greatly be missed.”
Survivors include his wife Pamela; his sister, Alice D. Riker and her husband Robert of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; and one nephew, Robert Riker Jr. and his wife JoAnn.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 10-11 a.m. at the Harrison-Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Route 97, Barryville, NY 12719.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Bohs officiating.
Burial will take place in Montoza Cemetery, Eldred, NY.
Donations may be made to the American Legion Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 63, Eldred, NY 12732.

Selma Rosenheck
Former Hotel Owner, 88

Selma Turetsky Rosenheck, 88, passed away on December 25, 2009 in Tulsa, OK.
She was born on July 6, 1921 to Harry and Fannie (Seitz) Turetsky in Harlem, NY.
Selma married Murray Morris Rosenheck in 1944 and was the former owner of the Turey Hotel in Harris, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Rosenheck; and son, Ira Phillip Rosenheck.
Selma is survived by her son, Ted Rosenheck; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service was held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Old Temple Section of Rose Hill Cemetery.
