Purpose-driven group rises out of a senseless tragedy

CALLICOON — May 7, 2013 — Sullivan County’s newest non-profit, Kristina KARES (Kristina's Assistance Relief Efforts Services), has kicked off with a bang.
The organization was created by Callicoon resident Cindy Adams to honor her daughter Kristina, who was murdered in August 2012. Thanks in part to a fundraiser held recently at the Villa Roma, the organization has already raised $10,000, which was split between the Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County and Adult Literacy Program of Wayne/Pike Counties (Pennsylvania).
Adams said the goal is to hold events that will help fund various causes in the future. "We at Kristina Kares are doing what we can to make the future a little bit better for others and helping each other face each day without Kris," Adams said.
The next event will be held in October, but donations can be sent at any time to Kristina Kares, PO BOX 161, Callicoon NY 12723.
