Tusten supports truck ban resolution by UDSB

By Kaitlin Carney
NARROWSBURG — The Town of Tusten Board received and reviewed correspondence from the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway requesting support, through resolution, to protect “the most significant attraction” of Route 97, “the scenic byway, and its highway vistas.”
The request, later supported through unopposed resolution, urged heavy industrial usage to utilize railroads and other alternative modes of transportation.
Supervisor Peg Harrison included in her report that they have been advertising for the bookkeeper position with no applicants yet received.
Water and Sewer Superintendent Scott Birney requested the board revisit his request to modify the billing system to bill customers on a quarterly basis. The request, which would later be approved by resolution, would enable the department to find leaks or issues earlier.
A report from the assessor indicated that the school tax bills never arrived to the town and were being reprinted for mailing.
The rezoning includes changing the area of the town from Narrowsburg Inn to the River Reporter on both sides from residential to business classification. Public hearing dates were set for the rezoning, and the next one will be October 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. Comments will also be received in writing.
There was much discussion amongst the board and those assembled about putting together an Emergency Preparedness Plan for the plan that is current and appropriate. The town currently follows Sullivan County’s Plan.
Those assembled lauded the work of the Fire and Highway Departments and for all of their hard work during the storms. Their hope was for a pre-planned approach by the town so that those without power know exactly what to expect and what resources are available.
