Joshua Hunt

Suspected arsonist arrested

Contributed Story
MONTICELLO — A month-long investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a volunteer firefighter.
On September 2, detectives from arrested Joshua Hunt, 24, of Glen Spey for two counts of arson in the 2nd degree.
Sheriff’s deputies had investigated two suspicious fires that occurred at the Mountain View Resort on High Road in Glen Spey in August. The first fire occurred August 7 at 10:30 p.m. in a carriage house on the property. Although the structure was unoccupied at the time, firefighter Roger Bisland of the Lumberland Fire Department was injured at the scene. On August 19 at approximately 3:04 a.m., a four room bungalow on the property caught fire.
In both cases, Joshua Hunt, who was a caretaker at the resort and a Lieutenant with the Lumberland Fire Department, called in the alarm. Hunt made admissions to Sheriff’s Detectives yesterday, which led to his arrest. Hunt was arraigned before Judge Martin Miller and sent to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
He was scheduled to appear last night in the Town of Thompson justice court at 5:30 p.m. State Police, Town of Lumberland Constables, and the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire assisted the Sheriff’s Office in this investigation.
