Berneice Brownell

Eldred Board of Ed fires superintendent

By Dan Hust
ELDRED — June 15, 2010 — After three years with the district, Eldred Central School Superintendent Berneice Brownell has been fired by the board of education.
Board President Raymond Henry could not be reached for comment, while another board member said they could not speak on the matter, per the school attorney’s advice.
However, the board did release the following statement yesterday:
“At the June 10, 2010 Board of Education meeting, the board decided to exercise their contractual options and terminate the employment agreement of the Superintendent of Schools, effective August 9, 2010. There will be a special meeting of the Board of Education Tuesday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Eldred Junior-Senior High School in Room 203 to appoint an Acting Superintendent.”
No reasons for the termination were given, and Brownell had not returned a request for comment by press time.
