Bulldogs Battle Tuxedo to 1-1 Tie

By Ted Waddell
JEFFERSONVILLE — October 27, 2006 — Monday’s non-league boys’ soccer game between the host Bulldogs of Sullivan West and the Tornados of Tuxedo ended in a 1-1 at the end of regulation play when both coaches decided it was too dark to complete the standard two 10-minute overtime periods.
SW’s record now stands at 9-5-3 and Tuxedo is 9-5-1.
Billy Sahler of Tuxedo scored at 20:32 in the first half off an assist by Sean Roth.
At 23:17 in the second half, Sullivan West evened the score when Kienan Garn recorded a goal off an assist from Kevin Cappiello.
Bulldog goalkeeper Logan Grishaber had eight saves on the afternoon, while Tornado goalie T.J. Ostrowski made seven saves.
“It was a pretty well-balanced game,” Tuxedo Coach Dave Powers said. “I thought we had the better play in the first half.”
“I’m glad our team came to play in the second half,” said SW Coach Debbie Owen, making an oblique reference to her team’s rather lackluster performance in the first 40 minutes of competition.
“We had a slow start,” she said. “We weren’t ready to play in the first half, that’s for sure.”
