WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — August 4, 2006 – Dutch’s Bar/T&C Tanning Salon defeated New Hope, 20-2, on Tuesday night in a Sullivan County Women’s Softball League (SCWSL) game at Gary A. Bradley Field at White Sulphur Springs Fire Department Park.
Dutch’s/T&C started off with a strong lead and continued to hold that momentum throughout the entire game. In addition, the Dutch’s/T&C players were very aggressive on the bases in the first inning and maintained that aggressiveness during the contest.
Tini Kaiser started off on the right track for Dutch’s/T&C by hitting a single, which in turn led to a double with her speed on the bases. Candie Lake then ripped a single to bring in Kaiser. Lake made it to third base as New Hope tried to prevent Kaiser from crossing home plate.
Theresa Nietzel hit a double, bringing home Lake. Theresa Murdock hit a double to send Nietzel home. With some errors in the field, Murdock scored as well.
Amy Brudermann continued the Dutch’s/T&C offensive outburst by hitting a double. Shannon Holland then hit a single, which allowed Brudermann to score.
New Hope finally got the third out of the inning, but Dutch’s/T&C had already scored five runs.
In the bottom of the first, New Hope came out playing hard and did not give up. New Hope’s Allison Whipple hit a single to right field. Kelly Cicero followed her lead and hit a single, which moved Whipple into scoring position.
Later in the frame, after two outs had been recorded, Whipple scored on a single by Lori Kimmis.
During the top of the second, Dutch’s/T&C added four runs to its lead. Kim Bradley began the inning with a base hit. Justine Artus was able to send Kim Bradley home with a sacrifice. Tini Kaiser slammed a double to center field. Candie Lake had a base hit to score Kaiser.
Lake crossed the plate moments later when Theresa Nietzel hit her second triple of the game.
The Dutch’s/T&C defense prevented New Hope from scoring in the bottom of the second.
Following a scoreless third inning, Dutch’s/T&C scored once in the top of the fourth when Artus tagged up and ran home on a fly ball.
New Hope also scored one run in the fourth. Moe Johnson slammed an inside-the-park solo home run into deep right field.
Heading into the top of the fifth with a 10-2 advantage, Dutch’s/T&C started hitting again. A.J. Matthews and Lisa Benjamin both hit singles and Shannon Holland was walked to load the bases. The next batter, Cris Carpenter, singled to bring home Matthews.
Jenny Colaianni then ripped a single which allowed both Holland and Benjamin to score.
The Dutch’s/T&C defense held New Hope off the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth.
Both defenses were up to the challenge in the sixth inning as neither team’s offense could score.
In the top of the seventh, Dutch’s/T&C added a few runs. Artus had a bases-loaded single, which allowed Carpenter to score. Nietzel came up with the bases loaded and cleared them by smashing her second triple of the evening. Jenny Colaianni, Artus and Kaiser all crossed home plate thanks to Nietzel’s triple.
Theresa Murdock then hit a single to bring home Nietzel.
