LIBERTY — July 28, 2006 – In Monday evening’s Hudson Valley Summer Baseball League game between the host Catskill Cougars and the Hudson Valley Vipers, the local lads got snakebit by a final score of 3-1.
The Vipers (10-5) scored one run in the second, another in the fifth and wrapped up the game with a run in the sixth.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars (7-7-2) sent a runner across the plate to avoid being shut out.
Kevin Scott, the second batter of the inning, singled to shortstop.
He was then replaced by pinch runner Kevin McGuire, who advanced to second base on a groundout by Mike Kushetsky.
McGuire legged it home to score the Cougars’ only run on a double to center field by Garrett Owen.
Jeremy Pena earned the win for the Vipers.
Cougars’ pitcher Corey Van Keuren was tagged with the loss.
The Catskill Cougars are coached by Mike McGuire, while the Hudson Valley Vipers are led by Bob Illenberg.
