Mr. Willy's
In Command

By Andy Simek
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — June 27, 2006 – When somebody says the name Mr. Willy’s, there are few people who don’t break into uncontrollable giggling or who don’t at least crack a smile.
On the field, however, the Mr. Willy’s women’s softball team isn’t on the receiving end of anybody’s jokes.
The team’s Sullivan County Women’s Softball League (SCWSL) game on Thursday evening against Behan’s, held at the White Sulphur Springs Firemen’s Field, was a prime example.
The top of the first saw Mr. Willy’s score three runs, which was the beginning of a streak that would slow down towards the middle of the game, but never actually let up.
Besides these runs, the game got off to a sluggish start, with two more runs in the bottom of the second by Behan’s.
It was an easy-going, badminton paced back-and-forth contest until the top of the sixth inning.
Starting with Tiffany Hauser, who was the sixth batter in the lineup, and ending with Cindy LaRuffa, third in the lineup, Mr. Willy’s took a commanding lead of the game, with a score of 16 runs against Behan’s four.
The game ended in the next inning with Mr. Willy’s scoring another two runs to post an impressive 18-4 victory.
Mr. Willy’s Coach and team captain Diane Meyer said of the game, “Well, we started off slow but then we just started clicking again.”
The rhythm of their “clicking” will be a tune not soon forgotten by Behan’s.
