FALLSBURG — January 24, 2006 – In Friday night’s Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division V boys’ basketball game between the home team Fallsburg Comets and Spartans of S.S. Seward, the visitors emerged victorious by a final score of 54-48.
Seward improved to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in Div. V play. Fallsburg dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in Div. V competition.
For the stats-minded observers, the Spartans scored 11 points in each of the first two quarters. The team then repeated its numerical act in the second half, racking up 16 points in the third and fourth periods.
Fallsburg outpaced Seward 16-11 in the first frame. In the third quarter, the Comets outscored the Spartans by two (18-16).
But in the fourth period, the Spartans led by as much as 12 points.
Leading Seward to the win were Bryan Folkl and Sadam Sahmanovic. Folkl scored a team-high 14 points and Sahmanovic recorded 10 points.
Fallsburg’s Adam Gold scored a game-high 17 points. The majority of Gold’s points were of the long-distance variety, as he made five 3-point shots on the evening.
Daniel Friedman added eight points for the Comets.
