Meet the Enterprising
Kayla Greco, 9

MONTICELLO — May 31, 2005 – Nine-year-old Kayla Greco has become one of Sullivan County’s leading fundraisers for the American Red Cross.
The young girl, who is a third-grade student at Kenneth L. Rutherford School in Monticello, became interested in “helping people,” after the tsunamis caused utter destruction in Asia last year, said her father Michael Greco.
Kayla wanted to help the victims of the floods, and so, with the help of her dad, who runs the Monticello Men’s Softball League, she began to sell soda, Gatorade, chips and water to the dozens of players at each game.
In the first three weeks of the season, she has only missed one game and that is only because she was sick. Kayla has already raised over $200 for the American Red Cross.
“She just wants to give to people who need,” Michael Greco said. “For a nine-year old, that is amazing.”
The younger Greco enjoys the action, which runs nearly non-stop throughout the summer at Sommerville Field in Monticello.
“She loves being down at the field,” Michael Greco said of his daughter.
He noted that “the guys have been super” and often purchase the refreshments Kayla is selling.
“I am thrilled that my daughter is taking an interest in helping other people,” Michael Greco said. “That’s all you ever want from people.”
