SW Slams
O'Neill

By Ted Waddell
JEFFERSONVILLE — May 10, 2005 – The fourth inning was a whopper for the home team in Thursday afternoon’s Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division IV baseball game.
The Bulldogs of Sullivan West scored 10 runs in that fourth inning on their way to a 12-2 victory over the visiting James I. O’Neill Raiders.
SW (8-6, 4-2 Division IV) grabbed an early 2-0 lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning and another in the bottom of the second.
O’Neill (3-13, 2-4 Division IV) scored a run in the top of the third to narrow the SW lead to 2-1.
But the Raiders were stunned in the fourth as 10 Bulldogs crossed home plate to give SW a commanding 12-1 advantage.
In the top of the sixth, O’Neill added a run but could not get any closer.
Leading SW to the win were Joe Meyer, Jim Moloney, Garrett Owen and Lloyd Shaffer. Moloney allowed just one earned run in six innings to pick up the victory on the mound. Meyer had three hits and scored two runs, Owen recorded three hits, scored three times and had three RBIs, and Shaffer had three hits and three RBIs.
