WURTSBORO — April 5, 2005 – The Sullivan Striders Running and Walking Club will host the 2005 Wurtsboro Mountain 30K Road Run this Saturday, April 9.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the Emma Chase School, which is located just off Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
This Saturday’s event will be the fourth annual Wurtsboro Mountain 30K Road Run.
Andy Latincsics won last April’s race in a time of 1 hour, 55 minutes and 7 seconds. Finishing just behind Latincsics were Stephen Marsalese, who ran the course in 1:58.00, and Michael Murphy, who posted a time of 1:58.15.
In the women’s division of the 2004 race, Suzanne La Burt captured first place with a time of 2:16.07. Taking second place was Laurie Gordon, who transversed the 30K course – which is the equivalent of 18.64 miles – in 2:19.34. Jean Norton finished third, posting a time of 2:21.21.
The times achieved by Latincsics, Marsalese and Murphy last year were the second, third and fourth best times, respectively, ever recorded in the race. The course record of 1:52.33 was set by Dave Welsh in the 2003 event.
La Burt’s time in last year’s competition broke Norton’s course record. At the inaugural Wurtsboro Mountain 30K Road Run in 2002, Norton ran the course in 2:18.16 to set the women’s record time. But La Burt’s 2004 time of 2:16.07 was over two minutes faster than Norton’s mark.
Norton currently holds the second and fourth fastest women’s times in the event as her 2002 time of 2:18.16 is second and her 2004 time of 2:21.21 is fourth best. Gordon’s mark of 2:19.34 from the 2004 race is third best all-time.
