Mildred Eidel, 81
Ret. Dep. Town Clerk

Mildred “Midge” Eidel of Woodbourne, a retired Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Fallsburg, died Friday, October 7, 2005, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 81 years of age.
The daughter of the late Edward L. Sr. and Bernetta Petrowsky Yanchitis, she was born August 26, 1924, in Forest City, Pa. She was the widow of Donald J. Eidel who died in 2001.
Mrs. Eidel was a member and communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sheryl Eidel of Woodbourne; and a grandson, Dylan, of Woodbourne. She was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah, a brother, Edward, and a sister, Eleanor.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with Father John Lynch officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope. Private burial of the cremains will be made in Hillside Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.

Clara A. Meckle
Homemaker, 98

Clara A. Meckle of Narrowsburg, a lifelong area resident and a homemaker, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, Pa. She was 98 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Anna Thone Daub, she was born October 5, 1907 in Cochecton Center. She was the widow of Lewis Meckle Sr. who died July 6, 1982, after 48 years of marriage.
A member of St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church in Narrowsburg, she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. Mrs. Meckle was a member of the Tusten Senior Citizens and the Lava Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
In a family statement, it was said, “Clara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her specialties were baking, needle work and the flowers in her garden.”
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Ann and Raymond Rutledge and Judy and Amos Rutledge, all of Tyler Hill, Pa., and Nancy and Donald Fraser of Monticello; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Jr. and Beverly Meckle of Narrowsburg; a sister, Henrietta Pierce of Lake Huntington; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Carl Daub, and three sisters, Ann Rutz, Elizabeth Walter and Helen Bernas.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Narrowsburg with the Rev. William Scully, O.F.M., officiating.
Burial was made in St. Francis Cemetery in Narrowsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Narrowsburg, N.Y. 12764.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.

Anne Lindsley
Ret. Nurse, 94

Anne Amanda Whitney Lindsley of Jeffersonville, a lifelong area resident and a retired nurse of the former Maimonides Hospital in Liberty and Community General Hospitals in Liberty and Harris, died Saturday, October 8, 2005, at her home. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late George Arthur and Mirta J. Becker Whitney, she was born December 23, 1910, in Spring Brook, Town of Colchester. She was the widow of Milton Joseph Lindsley who died July 22, 2005, after 62 years of marriage.
Mrs. Lindsley was a member of the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church.
In a family statement, it was said, “Anne was a lifelong caregiver and servant as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, nurse and friend.”
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Capt. Leonard P. Scullion, U.S. Navy Ret., of Saint Marys, Ga.; a grandson; a granddaughter, Amanda Jo Scullion of Americus, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Lindsley of Jeffersonville, Irene Hofmann of Naples, Fla., and Jane Lindsley of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Virginia Bossley officiating.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Methodist Cemetery.

Lois Schrumpf
Homemaker, 92

Lois Schrumpf of Callicoon Center, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at her home. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Edgar and Verna Tice Aldrich, she was born February 4, 1913 in Callicoon. She was the widow of Richard Schrumpf.
Mrs. Schrumpf was a charter member of the Callicoon Center Firemen’s Auxiliary and a member of the Willing Workers of St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Callicoon Center.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Judith and David Klopp of Wyckoff, N.J., Karen and George Labouseur of Liberty and Debra Issman of Callicoon Center; and five grandchildren, Alan Labouseur, Brian Labouseur, Michael Klopp, David Klopp and Nicole Issman. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Dorrer.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Rev. Audrey Pedersen officiating.
Burial was made in the Callicoon Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Irene Sackett
Ret. Teacher, 92

Irene Sackett, a resident of Callicoon since 1986 and a retired Catholic school teacher, died Friday, October 7, 2005, in Callicoon. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Julia McKenna O’Leary, she was born October 19, 1911, in Killarney, Ireland. She was the widow of Vincent Sackett.
Mrs. Sackett was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Callicoon.
She is survived by two daughters, Michelle M. Schroeder of Callicoon and Irene Reis and her husband, David, of Wappingers Falls; four grandchildren, Irene Salvati and her husband, Jeffrey, of South Carolina, Sheila Donovan and her husband, Michael, of New York City, Jennifer Stimpson of Wurtsboro and Jonathon Schroeder of Callicoon; two great-grandchildren, Renee Salvati of South Carolina, and Chenaniah Vincent Stimpson of Wurtsboro; and two sisters, Pauline White of London, England, and Peggy Cronin of Killarney, Ireland. She was predeceased by seven siblings, Michael O’Leary, Dan Joe O’Leary, Sean O’Leary, Mae Albano, Sheila Janaway, Noreen Gallo and Patrick O’Leary.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m.on Tuesday at the Grace Baptist Church in Callicoon with the Rev. Lauren Hertzler officiating.
Burial will be made in the Calkins Cemetery in Calkins, Pa.

Wilma De Vries-Talma
Homemaker, 97

Wilma De Jong De Vries-Talma, a more than 50-year resident of Sussex, N.J., died after a short illness at the Milford (Pa.) Senior and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, October 7, 2005. She was 97 years of age.
The daughter of the late Arend and Jantje De Jong, she was born in Holland. She was the widow of Dirk De Vries who died in 1969 and Peter Talma who died in 1987.
Mrs. Talma was a member of the Sussex (N.J.) Christian Reformed Church.
She is survived by three sons,Theunis De Vries of the state of Florida, Arthur De Vries and his wife, Helen, of Dingman’s Ferry, Pa., and Fred De Vries and his wife, Rita, of Bloomingburg; two daughters, Jennie Kuperus and her husband, Nicholas, of Vernon Twp., N.J., and Susan Struble of South Burlington, Vt.; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St., Sussex, N.J., on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Sussex Christian Reformed Church on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be made at the Clove Cemetery in Wantage Twp., N.J.

Beatrice L. Rupp
Ret. Macy’s Exec., 94

Beatrice L. Rupp, a 16-year resident of Liberty and a retired executive with Macy’s Department Store at Herald Square, New York City, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frederick and Martha Prockett Rupp, she was born September 5, 1911, in Brooklyn.
Miss Rupp was also a professional dancer for many years and was one of the original Radio City Music Hall Rockettes.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Peggy Rupp of Liberty; and two nieces, Pamela Jones of Liberty and Linda Johnson of Brooklyn. She was predeceased by a brother, Roland Rupp, a sister, Mildred Blackler, an aunt, Rena Prockett and a niece, Sally Jacobsen.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A memorial service will be held at the Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Thursday.

Ralph Knack, 90
Ret. Watershed Inspector

Ralph H. Knack of Liberty, a lifetime area resident and a retired Watershed Inspector for the City of New York Board of Water Supply, working at the Neversink Dam from 1955 until his retirement in 1972, died Friday, September 30, 2005. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late Henry and Catherine Mauer Knack, he was born July 25, 1915, in Hortonville. He was the widower of Grace Kewley Knack who died in 1996.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Knack received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained while serving on the USS Thatcher DD-514. He was a member of the Liberty Fire Department Ontario Hose Co. #3.
Mr. Knack was an avid horse lover. Friends will remember the “One Horse Ranch” on Neversink Road where he lived.
In a statement by his daughter, it was said, “I would like to thank the many friends and family who gave their support during the years Ralph was living alone since his wife’s passing. I would like to especially thank Gerda Wolfe of the Wolfe Family Home in Narrowsburg, where Ralph has resided since May of 2002. The attention and care he has received at the Wolfe Family Home has been truly exceptional. I can never thank Gerda enough for being the person she is and for all she has done.”
Mr. Knack is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Aprilann and Martin Passeck of Syracuse; and a grandson, Corey Adam Passeck.
At his request, there were no funeral services.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Kimball D. Dyer
Ret. Teacher, 79

Kimball “Kim” Decker Dyer of Detroit, Mich., a former resident of Buck Brook and a retired high school history teacher, died September 25, 2005, as the result of injuries incurred in a hit and run accident. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Herbert A. and Dorothy H. Decker Dyer, he was born January 21, 1926, in New Britain, Conn.
Mr. Dyer was a founding member of the Warren Astronomical Society in Detroit. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Pacific Theatre of War and was stationed on Guam.
He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Bennett of Riverdale, and a brother, Stuart Dyer of Hillsboro, N.C.
There will be no visitation.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Hagerty officiating.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Methodist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, Gale Rd., Mongaup Valley, N.Y. 12762.
