Frieda L. Stalker, 85
Homemaker

Frieda L. Stalker of Damascus, Pa., a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, August 22, 2005 at her home. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Grant and Lena Adams Caffrey, she was born March 11, 1920 in Equinunk, Pa. She was the widow of Clarence Stalker who died in 1990.
She is survived by two sons, John Stalker of Owego, and Arthur Stalker of Westchester, Pa.; a daughter, Barbara Connell of Wedowee, Ala.; a sister, Patricia Baum of Callicoon; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg.
Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee, Pa.

John W. Griesbeck, 49
Corrections Officer

John W. Griesbeck, a 30-year area resident, died on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Seelig Division of Catskill Regional Medical Center at Harris. He was 49 years of age.
The son of William and Jean Bauer Griesbeck, he was born on March 21, 1956 in Nyack.
He was a corrections officer at the Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch, and a musician. He was also a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
He is survived by his parents of Claryville; a son, Jonathan Griesbeck of Liberty; a daughter, Theresa Griesbeck and her husband James Uciechowski of Claryville; a brother, Robert Griesbeck of Woodbourne; three nieces, Christine, Stephanie, and Michele Griesbeck; and one nephew, Mathew Griesbeck; and his longtime companion Sarah Walker, and her mother, Barbara Walker, both of Liberty.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Burial of the cremains will be made at Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2005 with Msgr. Edward Straub officiating.

Frank P. Poje, 53
Bartender/Restaurateur

Frank P. Poje, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 53 years of age.
The son of Anton Poje and the late Helen Ratchki Poje Tschinkel, he was born on April 1, 1952 in Brooklyn.
Mr. Poje was a bartender and restaurant owner, and a self-employed contractor. He was a member of the Catskill IOOB in Liberty.
He is survived by his father, and his stepmother Janet Poje, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; his companion Wanda Cabral, and son Marcus of Swan Lake; two sons, Frank M. Poje and his wife Tara, and Michael W. Poje, all of Liberty; a daughter, Erin Gorr and her husband, Melvin, of Liberty; three brothers, Robert Poje of Lantana, Fla., John Poje and his wife Christine of St. Thomas, Virgin Isl., and Paul Tschinkel of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Olivia and Julia Gorr, and his former wife, Linda Prince of Liberty.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 27 at St. Peter’s Church, Main St., Liberty with Msgr. Edward Straub officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by Ramsay’s Funeral Home Inc., Liberty.

James R. Mance Sr., 62
Ret’d. Heating/Plumbing Cont.

James Richard Mance Sr. of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Accord, died Friday, July 1, 2005 after a long battle with numerous health problems. He was 62 years of age.
The son of Robert and Katherine Fraley Mance, he was born September 3, 1942 in Ellenville. He was the widower of Carol Bauer Mance.
He grew up in Ellenville and worked most of his life as a heating and plumbing contractor. After retiring in 1995, he moved to Tucson to be with his son, Jim Jr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and skilled in all things mechanical. He enjoyed shooting and cooking later in life.
He is survived by a son, Jim Mance Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Barbara Parkens of Monticello, and Jo-Ann Saenz of Middletown; one brother, Willard Mance of Ellenville; 13 grandchildren; and one niece.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.
Funeral arrangements were made by Loucks Funeral Home, Inc. of Ellenville.

Dorothy Brazilian, 88
Ret'd. Founder of Bud’s Taxi

Dorothy “Dotty” Brazilian of Valley Cottage died on Monday, August 22, 2005 at her home. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of Benjamin and Eliza Stevens, she was born on July 8, 1917 in Middletown. She was the widower of Harold “Bud” Brazilian, to whom she was married 68 years.
She was the founder and co-owner of Bud’s Nyack Taxi.
A family statement said, “After her retirement, being surrounded by her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy. She will be greatly missed.”
She is survived by four daughters, June McGullicuddy and her husband John of Wappingers Falls, Joyce Haring and her companion, Hank Hudson of Cochecton, Carol Draudt and her husband Bill of Narrowsburg, and Nancy Doyle and her husband Frank of Bellevue, Neb.; a son, Robert and his fiancé Frieda of Englewood, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Congers.
Burial was made in Wallkill Cemetery.

Bernice L. Nicholson, 74
Office Worker and Secretary

Bernice L. Nicholson, a lifelong resident of Liberty, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at her home. She was 74 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Rohrbach Weitzel, she was born July 7, 1931 in Liberty. She was the widow of Fred L. Nicholson who died in 1980.
She worked for many years in the Village of Liberty’s Clerk’s Office, and recently was a secretary at Cablevision Industries in Ferndale. She attended St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberty, and was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Nicholson of Glen Cove, and Steven Mungeer and his wife Janet, of Palm Bay, Fla.; a sister, Shirley A. Weitzel of Liberty; and three grandchildren, William Nicholson, Jill Mungeer, and Daniel Mungeer; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., 275 South Main St., Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Liberty cemetery.

Allen L. Kelly, 44
Heavy Equip. Mechanic

Allen L. Kelly, a 15-year resident of Middletown and a heavy equipment mechanic for New Millennium Rentals in Newburgh, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at his home. He was 44 years of age.
The son of Walter and Mildred Miller Kelly, he was born on March 12, 1961 in Monticello. He married Julie Bibeau on March 30, 1991 in Wurtsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Julie, at home; his parents of Bloomingburg; two sons, Brad Kelly of Middletown, and Christopher Kelly of Bloomingburg; one stepson, Peter Williams and his wife Jennifer of Campbell Hall; a stepdaughter, Lynn Battle and her husband Anthony of Middletown; two brothers, Walter C. Kelly and his wife Gloria of the state of Florida, and James Barben of S. Carolina; two sisters, Clara Dusiniski and her husband Joe of Middletown, and Thelma Leed of Pa.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a stepson, Donny Williams; a brother, Albert Kelly, and a sister, Gladys DeGroat.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. in Middletown.
Burial was made in in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.

David L. Dunlap Jr., 78
Ret’d. Construction Worker

David L. Dunlap Jr. of Stroudsburg, Pa., died on Monday, August 22, 2005 at his home. He was 78 years of age.
The son of David L. Dunlap Sr. and Louisa Edwards Dunlap-Hess, he was born October 30, 1926 in Mt. Pocono, Pa.
He was a former employee of Sabo Construction in Whitehaven, Pa., and William Graffin Construction in Mt. Bethel, Pa. He was employed by David Bodine Construction in Cresco, Pa. until retiring in 1995. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his greenhouse and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Erva Miller Dunlap, at home; two daughters, Roxann Dunlap of Tannersville, Pa., and Susan Vitulli and her husband Bill of East Stroudsburg, Pa., a son, David L. Dunlap III and his wife Corrinne of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Bobby Fluegel Jr. and his wife Brenda, of Effort, Pa., Jason Fluegel of Tannersville, Pa., Melissa Fluegel of Asheville, N.C., Will Vitulli, and Nick Vitulli, both of East Stroudsburg, Pa., David L. Dunlap IV of Monticello, Jason Stockdale and his wife, Chrissy of Middle Village; six great-grandchildren, Jennifer Magrosky of Belmont, N.H., Stephanie Magrosky and Nicole Magrosky of Effort, Pa., Michael Stockdale and Athena Stockdale of Middle Village, and soon-to-be-born Zion David DeVore; one great-great-grandchild, Madison Magrosky of Effort, Pa.; a brother, Albert Dunlap and his wife Helen, of Kunkletown, Pa.; two sisters, Joan Hardenstine and her husband Harold, of Reeders, Pa., and Carol Berger and her husband Norman of Scotrun, Pa. He was predeceased by a brother, Preston Dunlap, and a sister, Evelyn Triano.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., E. Stroudsburg, Pa. with Pastor David Long officiating.
Burial was made in Custard’s Cemetery in Bartonsville, Pa.

Joseph R. Otto, 37

Joseph R. Otto, of Cliffwood Beach, N.J., a welder for Steamfitters Local 638 of New York, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at his home. He was 37 years of age.
The son of Raymond and Phyllis Otto, he was born May 17, 1968 in Staten Island.
He is survived by his father of Flemington, N.J.; his mother of Woodbridge, N.J.; a sister, Michelle Otto of Cliffwood Beach, N.J.; his grandmothers, Florence Brown of Bethel and Clair Nyers of Woodbridge, N.J.
He was a member of the Richmond Boro Gun Club of Staten Island.

Kim Robin Bober, 47

Kim Robin Bober, an area resident and a former technical adviser for the SYDA Foundation in South Fallsburg, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla as a result of a motor vehicle accident. She was 47 years of age.
The daughter of Max Herman Bober and Dolores Roth, she was born February 7, 1958 in Greece.
She is survived by her father and his wife Gloria of West Virginia; her companion of more than 10 years, Albert Hudson; a brother, George Schoen and his wife, Roseann, of W. Va.; two sisters, Jodi Kane and her husband, Jim, and Mirian and her husband, Alan, of Plainview.
Graveside services and burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Brotherhood Cemetery, Thompsonville Road, Monticello with Cantor Michael Sturm officiating.

Antoinette Spradling, 85
Frmr. Dance Choreographer

Antoinette “Toni” Spradling, a 40-year resident of Montague, N.J. and a dance choreographer, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Milford Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center in Milford, Pa. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Francisco and Rose Pagnotti Rosso, she was born July 24, 1920 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Homer C. “Slim” Spradling, to whom she was married 59 years.
She was the founder and owner of Toni Spradling Dance Studio who began her professional career in New York City in 1927, becoming a Radio City Music Hall Rockette upon her graduation from high school. She retired from her career as a dance instructor at the age of 83, in 2002.
She was a stateside member of the U.S.O. in the New York metro area. She met her husband December 7, 1941, while he was stationed in New York as an M.P. for the U.S. Army.
In a family statement, it was said, “Toni’s family wishes to thank not only the 6,000 area children and adults who were pupils over the more than 30 years in Montague (N.J.), but the hundreds of supporters and staff. Toni was a beloved and benevolent person who gave her heart to all around her. She will be sadly missed. Today, there is a new star in the heavens.”
She is survived by two sons, Guy Spradling and his wife, Carol, of Milford, Pa., and Mark Spradling and his wife, Teresa, of Pond Eddy; a stepson, David Spradling and his wife, Monica, of Hilton Head, S.C.; a brother, Frank Russo and his wife, Shirley, of Toronto, Canada; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Ronald Russo of Williamsport, Pa. She was predeceased by a daughter, Rose Marie Allen and a son-in-law, John T. Allen Sr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 Main St., Port Jervis.
Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Jervis.

Joseph Consacro Sr., 70
Supr. of Maintenance

Joseph Consacro Sr. of Monticello, the head of maintenance for the Cerebral Palsy Association in Rock Hill, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late Frank Consacro and Filippa DelAnno Consacro, he was born September 8, 1934 in Staten Island.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War, and a member of the Fins, Furs and Feathers Hunting Club in Smallwood.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Amelia Vasquez Consacro, at home; a son, Joseph Consacro Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Rock Hill; a brother, Peter Consacro and his wife Donna of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Anna Grace Consacro of Lake Worth, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Josephine Vasquez of Monticello; a granddaughter, Krysten Consacro; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by two brothers, Sal and Pat Consacro; and two sisters, Mary Cerrato and Antoinette DeLuca.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 27 at St. Peter’s Church of Monticello with Fr. John Tran officiating.
Burial with military honors will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Nelson VanKeuren, 84
Ret’d. NYC DEP Employee

Nelson VanKeuren, recently of Wells Bridge and formerly of Palm Bay, Fla., died Sunday, August 21, 2005. He was 84 years of age.
The son of Frank and Adella VanKeuren, he was born May 30, 1921 in Neversink.
He spent his childhood and most of his adult life in Neversink, and was a graduate of Liberty High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force, serving in the Radio Squadron in WWII. He was a retired employee of the New York City Dept. of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Supply, Rondout-Neversink Section in Grahamsville. He was a member of the Neversink Fire Dept. and the National Rifle Association.
In a family statement, it was said, “The family wishes to thank Catskill Area Hospice for their care during his illness.”
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, at home; a daughter, Sharon Corey of Wells Bridge; three grandchildren, Cheryl Evans and her husband, Scott, of Smithfield, N.C., Karen Scott and her husband, Michael, of Cary, N.C., and Kevin Klumpp of Wells Bridge; a brother, Milton VanKeuren and his wife, Eileen, of Neversink; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Keith VanKeuren; an infant daughter; a sister, Fanny Knight; and two brothers, Robert and Don VanKeuren.
Graveside services will be held in Grahamsville at a future date.
