GRAHAMSVILLE — September 14, 2004 – The hometeam Lady Bears booters defeated the Lady Yellowjackets of Eldred 1-0 to take the championship trophy in Saturday’s 14th Annual Tri-Valley Invitational Girls Soccer Tournament.
The only goal of the game was scored at 24:00 in the opening frame by Tri-Valley’s Julie Shovlin on an assist by Alice Cook.
Kaylie Ackerley protected the cage for Tri-Valley, while Alli Schombs signed up as goalie for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
“I thought it was a good game,” said Jolene Porter, coach of the Lady Yellowjackets.
“It’s still early in the season, and we’re trying to work out the bugs… we’re just trying to wade our way through the water and see how it goes,” she added.
Mary Feusner, coach of the Lady Bears, said the game was tightly contested and “very physical, especially in the second half.”
Tabbed for the All-Tourney Team from T-V were Alice Cook, Nikki Dean and Lacey Moore. For Eldred, it was Jamie Schombes, Jess Bisland and Jessica Cherry.
In addition, Cherry was named the tourney’s “Miss Defense” and T-V’s Caitlin McArthur was selected as the 14th annual tournament’s MVP.
