Rebecca Kaplan
Bookkeeper, 80

Rebecca Kaplan, a longtime Monticello resident, and 29 year employee and head bookkeeper for the Kristt Company in Monticello, died on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 in the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 80.
She was born in the Bronx on October 23, 1923, the daughter of Phillip and Rose Drewas Kaplan.
She is survived by her two sisters, Rennee Fritsch and her husband, Robert of Sarasota, FL, and Gussie Kantor of Monticello, her two brothers, Ben Kaplan of FL and Morton Kaplan of Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. on 388 Broadway in Monticello.

Anna Nearing
Homemaker, 90

Anna Nearing, the wife of the late Carl Nearing, died Monday, September 27, 2004 after illness. She was 90.
Anna was born July 23, 1914 on Greenwich Street in New York City. She was the daughter of Michael and Magdalina Granya (both born in Hungary) of New York City. Her father, Michael, a cabinet maker, died in his early 30s from a hunting accident and Magdalina died within a year of an illness but after giving birth to Mildred, Anna's younger sister by seven years. Due to the sudden death of both parents, Anna was placed in an orphanage and Mildred was placed with foster parents. Eva Pachin, Magdalina's younger sister, also of Hungary, only after her marriage to Charles Epst, was able to gain custody of the two young girls. They moved to Damascus, PA, took up farming and raised the two young women. Anna married Carl Nearing of Lake Huntington and had two sons, Donald and Jack. Anna and Carl purchased a home on Richard Road in Lake Huntington where Anna resided for 65 years.
She is survived by her sons, Donald and Jack of Palm Harbor, FL and Greenwich, CT respectively. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, Peggy Wisneski, Patricia Alenzi, Dwight, Carl, Scott and Ryan Nearing. There are also six great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Kristy Wisneski, Dana, Jenna and Saul Alenzi and Victoria Nearing and one great-great-grandchild, Nathaniel Wisneski.
Visitation will be at Rasmussen's Funeral Home in Narrowsburg on Friday, October 1 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will take place on Saturday, October 2 with services at Rasmussen's at 11 a.m.

Alice Malalan
Ret. IBM Employee, 68

Alice Huguette Malalan, a resident of Highland since 1960, formerly of New York City, died September 28, 2004 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 68.
The daughter of Frank Bruet and Louise Bruet, she was born on November 11, 1935 in New York City.
She was a member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland. She was an employee for Teddy's Frosted Foods in Highland and IBM in Fishkill up until her retirement.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph, at home; a sister, Danielle and a brother, Joseph Bruet both of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 38 Main St., Highland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland.
Burial will follow in Lloyd Cemetery in Highland.

Leonard Clemente
Ret. Sales Mgr., 86

Leonard J. Clemente, a retired sales manager for Sears and Roebuck and a resident of Forest Hills and Welcome Lake, PA, died September 23, 2004. He was 86.
Born August 1, 1918 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Margaret Clemente, he was preceded in death by a brother Gaspar Clemente.
Four days after his death, his wife of 57 years, Annettee Clemente, died on September 27, 2004.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph Clemente of the Bronx and local attorney Jeffrey Clemente of Beach Lake, PA and his wife, Frances Clemente; a grandson, Matthew Clemente; a granddaughter, Felicia Adair, two great-grandchildren, Colin and Quinlan Adair, and four sisters, Rose Riggio, Mary Mandela, Gennie Genco and Anna Caleca.
In his retirement he obtained a Bachelor's degree in political science from Queens College of the City University of NY.
Burial was at Calkins Cemetery, Calkins, PA.

Annette Clemente
Ret. Caseworker, 84

Annette "Ann" Clemente, a retired NYC Health and Human Services caseworker and a homemaker, and a resident of Forest Hills and Welcome Lake, PA, died on September 27, 2004. She was 84.
Born on September 21, 1920 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Lillian Amato, she was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Malazzo.
Four days prior to her death, her husband of 57 years, Leonard J. Clemente, died on September 23, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Clemente, of the Bronx and local attorney Jeffrey P. Clemente, of Beach Lake, PA and his wife, Frances Clemente; a grandson, Matthew Clemente; a granddaughter, Felicia Adair, and two great grandsons, Quinlan and Colin Adair; a brother, Peter Amato; and four sisters, Mary Pugliese, Lillian Dehler, Louis Cammarata, and Vera Mohie.
Burial was at Calkins Union Cemetery in Calkins, PA.
